Real Votes, Fatima, and Other Signs of Hope

fatima and pope john paul

By Charlie Johnston

On Tuesday, Texas held a special election for a State Senate seat that sprawls from San Antonio deep into west Texas. A deeply Hispanic district, it had been held by Democrats for the last 139 years – and the Democrat generally won with 55-60% of the vote.

The establishment media chuckled that Republicans were focusing intently on this race. Didn’t the GOP understand that they had no chance? All the media, the polls and history said so. Besides, there was a “blue wave” coming. Everybody knows that. Republicans will struggle to defend what they already have: they have no chance of taking what they have not had for over a century. Everybody among the smart set knows that. But on Tuesday, Republican Pete Flores defeated Democrat Pete Gallego by a decisive 6-point margin. Real votes trumped all the triumphal pre-election assurances of the Democrats, media, and pollsters.

Flores was always a good candidate with a solid record in other offices. Things got serious in early July when Texas Right to Life (TRTL) took a hard look at the candidate and the race. He was heading into a “jungle primary,” (one where the top two vote getters, whatever their party, face off for the general election) that included a total of eight candidates. Flores was focused on sound messaging and the grass-roots activism that is typical of successful upsets. So TRTL jumped in with both feet, endorsing him and putting resources behind the race – mailer, Facebook videos, and over 3000 direct phone calls into the district. TRTL’s endorsement sparked a flood of high level organizations and officials to follow suit. On July 31, Flores actually narrowly came out the top vote-getter in the jungle primary. Still, the Democrats weren’t worried. The votes were divided among more Democratic candidates than Republicans. Overall, 59% of those who voted in the primary voted Democrat. Nothing to see here.

But TRTL and the other organizations which jumped in for the primary doubled down for the general special election. TRTL wanted to show how dramatically an unapologetic pro-life message can resonate with Hispanics. Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick sniffed out a potentially defining race that could put to rest leftist fantasies of Texas trending blue – and put $175,000 into the race. On election night, when it was real votes that were counted instead of the ephemeral certainties of the left, the Republican Pete Flores had won by a decisive 53-47 margin. It was not even a nail-biter. Instead of Texas trending blue, it got a little bit redder.

Do not think that leftist assurances of a blue wave are all wishful thinking. Certainly, nationwide, Democratic turnout increases in primaries have exceeded Republican increases. But the reality is that (certainly for the last few years) polls and media are a terribly unreliable means of determining what is happening on the ground in these races. In fact, for the most part, these last few years, Democrats do all their hooting and hollering before the votes are cast. Once they are, Republicans more often have had cause for hooting and hollering. I pray that Pete Flores is a harbinger of the reality we have awaiting us in November. Perhaps then Democrats will seriously address the shrieking hysteria that has gripped their party instead of spending another two years explaining “what happened” and doubling down again on madness.

(Disclosure: Since the Texas Conference of Catholic Bishops ordered Parishes not to co-operate with TRTL earlier this year, I have frequently and significantly offered advisory counsel to TRTL).

On June 28, 2000, the day after the Vatican released the text of the Third Secret of Fatima at the order of Pope St. John Paul, I wrote the following interpretation of the secret and sent it to my Priest Director:

“The angel with the sword is the angel of God’s justice. The fire proceeding from the sword is what humanity has merited, particularly in this horrible century. Our Lord is offended by many things, but nothing so much as the general indifference and contempt with which we have treated his mother. But it is her constant intercession and pleadings on our behalf which restrains God’s justice.

The assassination attempt against John Paul II and its timing identify him as the pope of Fatima, but it is not the point of this secret. The ascent up the hill represents this pope’s particular mission. The city which lies half in ruins is Christianity, half of which no longer believes in God, but says Jesus was merely a good moral teacher. The corpses the pope meets and prays for on his way are those who, though they breathe, are spiritually dead. The cross at the top of the hill is the end of the pope’s mission on earth. It represents both his triumph and his death to this world. He kneels before it offering his work to Christ. It is after this triumph that the terror begins. It is the body of the pope’s work that the soldiers fire at. That they are in uniform shows that it is an organized effort. These are the legions who have given themselves over to Satan. But the pope has his legions, as well. They are the Priests and Bishops and Religious who joined themselves to him and followed him on his way. They will be true champions for Christ as the battle is joined. Prominent among them will be some of the dead souls – the corpses – reborn to spiritual life through the pope’s prayers.”

In an explanatory coda to my Priest, I added:

“I certainly concur with the official interpretation that this secret does not foretell the end. But it would be the end if it were not for Our Lady’s intercession. It pleases Our Lord that, when destruction is finally averted, all shall know that it was through Our Lady that we were spared. Then, all who call themselves Christians will show his mother and our mother the honor he shows her. And it is by this pope’s fidelity to his mission that the Church – the whole body of the faithful – has been prepared to endure the storm.”

This has weathered well, I think. I thought at the time, though, that the bulk of the attack on his work would come from outside the Church – not equally from outside and inside.

In March of 1993 I had the first of what I call “Great Visions,” – extensive, explanatory visions of what is to come and why. You must understand that the simplest, most seemingly direct messages from God have layers, facets, of meaning…so I never assume I understand exactly what I am shown. Rather, I take it as cause for intense, ongoing contemplation. The Lord spent over a decade showing me how feeble my (and all human) understanding of such things really is (truly, we do hold these treasures in earthen vessels). I admired St. John Paul at the time, but this vision showed me how consequential he truly is.

I was shown intensely how bad the storm would be (though not as intensely as I was two and a half years later on the eve of the Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception in 1995). Near the end, I was shown John Paul working with furious intensity at his desk – and shown that he KNEW what was coming. He had completely devoted himself to preparing the Church to weather the great storm. It would not begin until after his death – and then he would spend his time interceding constantly for the Church and people he so loved, accompanying us every step of the way through the crisis until Our Lady comes in Triumph to end the Storm. Through his constant intercession, may this terrible valley of bones we inhabit (Ezekiel 37) come back to full, glorious life, praising God for their resurrection to true, spiritual life.

I have mentioned my dear friend, Fr. Regis Scanlon, many times here. A Capuchin, he has worked in prison ministry and is focused on the theology of the Eucharist. In fact, he did formation for St. Mother Teresa’s nuns in Africa on the subject – and did a series on EWTN some 20 years ago on the same subject. He has started a marvelous blog dealing with issues in the faith and the Church today. I hope you’ll take a look. As you know, if he is my friend, he is solidly orthodox.

*******

Another friend, Bob Scheich, has taken leadership of the Padre Pio Prayer Group of Denver. It meets for confessions, Mass and worship the first Saturday of every month. I go there for my first Saturday devotions every month when I am home. This Sunday, after Mass at St. Patrick’s Oratory in Denver, they will hold a special celebration of St. Padre Pio’s life (this would be the Feast Day of St. Padre Pio did it not fall on a Sunday this year – as you know, the Feast Day of the Lord on Sundays always takes precedence over any other anniversary). I hope those of you who live in Denver will come out for it – and for the regular prayer group meetings on the first Saturday of each month.

*******

Acknowledge God, take the next right step, and be a sign of hope to those around you. Or, as Padre Pio would say, “Pray, hope, and don’t worry.”

Amen, Charlie. What beautiful fruit in your interpretation, rising from the contemplation of the Third Secret. Every authentic message from heaven, so generously given to us in our times, is a treasure. It is easy to tend to cling to the words from one apparition site, favoring it over others when, actually, each authentic message harmonizes with the others… and, even then, no one knows exactly what will happen so that it will all, most likely, make most sense in hindsight. I’m reminded of an expression which was posted all over the West African country in which I lived and served in the mid-seventies:

      1. Just a quick thought on Father Scanlon’s essay on the third secret. Medjugorje is also seen as being related to Fatima. Surely it is the most extraordinary apparition ever. Not just in the length of time and thousands of messages but also in the amazing response to them, The effect has been worldwide and has borne much good fruit. This is our heavenly mother pulling us back from the brink. Medjugorje has secrets too – some are described as terrible. So, who knows? It just strikes me as hopeful that our heavenly mother would keep on trying, keep on calling, keep on loving her errant human children. Children ” only a mother could love.”

        1. Yes, yes. I think we are also on the brink of something really big and due to our lady’s love, God is slowing her for such an incredible length of time to call us and prepare us to get ready. Cause it’s gonna be big!

    1. Question,

If pope Francis surrounds himself with people from the Lavender mafia…by association does that possibly mean the pipe is homosexual too? Never heard any negative background information coming from His home country.

      If not gay, perhaps masonic?
      Connected to one world government?

      More things to be revealed?

      1. God knows, Little one. I have not thought about what you wonder concerning Pope Francis. When I listened to an interview with the Englishman who wrote the book, The Dictator Pope, it was interesting to me that he shared, based on his research, that Pope Francis’s formation in the Jesuits was at a time when so many Jesuits were losing the original spirit intended by the founder of their order. The author also spoke to the environmental influence of living for so long under the political period dominated by Peron’s leadership.

  2. Charlie. A very good interpretation of the Fatima prophecy. All I can say is prayers for all and that when the translations of Origen’s three homilies on Psalm 73 are published, they will resonate with you.
As for the Ezekial reference, I cannot but point you in the direction of Origen’s Homily 12 on Ezekial.

    1. Thanks James, I appreciate it coming from you. On the day I read the secret…as I carefully explained to my Priests, I did not have another visitation explaining it to me. Rather, I got goosebumps all over. It was like being dropped in an unknown place, looking around, and realizing I know this territory.

  3. Thank you for the amazing insider’s perspectives on our elections and our prophesies. One question though…What reason did the TCCB give for telling Catholics not to support TRTL?

  4. Charlie,
I wasn’t aware of Fr Scanlon’s blog, but went there and read his posting about the 3rd Secret of Fatima, which is very informative and quite sobering.
Thanks much for giving us this great source of authentic Catholic writing.

  5. Just last night I had the good fortune of attending one of America Needs Fatima in-home presentations. The man who brought the statue and gave the presentation was simply outstanding. It was such a wonderful experience. I would appeal to my ASOH family to support this organization in any small way you can. If nothing else, pray for the safety of the men who drive all over the country bringing the Fatima Statue(s) into people’s homes. Signs of hope, all of them.
    Thanks.

  6. Charlie or Beckita, How do you account for Bob Woodward’s “Fear: Trump in the White House” selling more than 1.1 million copies in its first week of release, making it the fastest-selling book in the history of its publisher, Simon & Schuster? Also, Nike stock and sales have increased overall after the infamous ad. If not a blue wave, aren’t these are true blue ‘splashes’? Or am I missing something.

    1. It could be, Marie…but I really don’t think so. There are 323 million people in the country. The left LOVES to make purchases that don’t require any other effort on their part to create the illusion they are a wave. These can be one-time pops…and usually are. Let’s see how things look six months from now.

    2. Marie,
How a book is calculated to be a best seller varies, but often what happens is that powerful allies and companies buy, in their wholesale capacity the books and then put them out, announcing they are a best seller. The media hypes it up, proclaiming a demand for advanced orders, rush printing and so on. Book displays, called “dumps” are put up, and sometimes book signing happen with the book launch, or some other form of publicity, like the author reading the book. But, all this is marketing. Think about this – how often have you seen a new book release with the caption above the title “New York Times bestseller” “The New York Times Bestseller.” Then, after the hype is over and sales drop off, the hardcover copies of the book are remaindered or sold at a discount, and many actually end up recycled. If the book sells enough, it is then printed in paperback, but not always. So, I do not consider this Woodward book anything more than another maneuver of the anti-Trumpers.

As with books, so with sneakers.

        1. Bingo! Simon and Schuster list price is $30. Would you give Bob Woodward $30?

Target has it for $21. Amazon can get it for you for $18 or $14 USED. Just came out on Sept. 11.

Bob Woodward is a Saint of the Left for his takedown of a Republican President. A lot of his books are going to be “sold” in hopes he can take down another one. A kind of Woodward “Last Hurrah”.

In Washington folks go to the bookstore and browse the Index to see if their name is in the book. Then they put the book down and walk out of the store. Nobody in DC is going to hand over $30.

So, depending on the discount from list you can bet a whole lot of hardcover copies are going to be appearing on the coffee tables of the Left to indicate solidarity with the Resistance. “We’re on the team. Isn’t Bob courageous?”

The real question is how many people are going to actually READ the book? My guess is not many. Not many at all. It’s not for readin’. It’s for showin’.

You can bet your last dime that every bookseller in America will have a Hate Trump table located right at the front door this Christmas. Don’t you remember the Christmas Hate Bush tables? Couldn’t squeeze by them. I guess the Christmas Hate The President Table goes with Republican encumbency. Love the President Christmas Tables go with Democrat encumbency.

My guess is that BJ’s and Costco have bought a whole lot of those 1.1 million books in bulk lot for a deep, deep discount. Maybe at something like $5 per copy. They count as sales sitting in the warehouse waiting for the Christmas gift rush. Since it’s after Labor Day those tables may already be there piled high with copies of FEAR. This Christmas Season — which is already underway — you’ll be able to get such a deal at Costco … $15 or 50% off list price. Give them as Christmas gifts to your Lefty friends and family. Easy peel off label. $15 is all you want to spend on Cousin Fred anyway. He’ll never know.

Maybe they’ll gift wrap it for free.

  7. I learned an important lesson here. The pro- life underdog won because good men and women took charge and led the charge. They didn’t sit back nor just pray. They added action to their prayers. They got involved. I (fairly) recently moved from ‘Mayberry, USA’ to the suburbs of a large metropolitan area. I have yet to become involved in much outside of my family. No more excuses. It’s time.

  9. My understanding of Fatima is that the explanation by Our Lady of the vision (that was part of the third secret) was never released. Only the vision was released (Pope on the hill getting shot by arrows). Is that right? Mary explained all the visions to the children after she showed them (Hell, Consecration Russia, Pope), but the Church did not release Our Lady’s explanation of the 3rd vision for some reason. It had to be a bit more dreadful than Charlie interpretation, because it horrified Sister Lucia to the point she had to be ordered to write it down by her bishop. It was so horrifying she could not write it down. I think it was Socci’s book (4th Secret of Fatima) which explored this?

Anyway, I’m not trying to open up a can of worms here. I know we try to stay away from this stuff here and obviously Charlies interpretation is excellent, just trying to learn. Its an interest of mine, I hold no strong opinion on it.

Love the picture. He was such a great pope, even in his later years. As a kid I was so proud to be Catholic because of him. He never gave up! When I see pics of our current pope my heart sinks. Mary protect and guide him. St. John Paul II pray for us.

  10. Saint Pope John Paul II knew.

I’ve been thinking lately about one important project he undertook during his pontificate: The lengthy collaborative process to produce the updated universal Catechism of the Catholic Church ~ the first universal catechism since the Catechism of the Council of Trent, 1566.

With confusion abounding about what the Church actually teaches in matters of faith and morals, the Catechism offers a ready reference for lay people to find out for themselves. Saint Pope John Paul II thus helped equip us to exercise informed adult faith in responding to this crisis of the shepherds.

    1. Right after that vision, I started intensely reading all of Pope John Paul’s encyclicals. I was flabbergasted. He did more meat in just a few years than has been done in 500. He was almost literally tearing out the rotted wood of sophistry that had infected theology and was busily replacing it with strong, well-seasoned wood. He made this great ship fully seaworthy.

      Liked by 14 people

      1. Indeed, Charlie. He took on some of the huge issues of our time. Alas, I was aware all the while of the tepid (at best) reception to some of these encyclicals (e.g., Veritatis Splendor) by prominent church leaders ~ men and women ~ in at least some dioceses.

        1. It was amazing. 500 years from now, we will begin to have plumbed the depths of the work St. John Paul did. It bothered me a little that so many in the church had no clue of the sublime wisdom of this great saint at the time, but I KNEW that the sturdy wood he was giving us would ultimately be dispositive to those who could hear.

          1. Amen, Charlie and Sr. Bear. Pope St. John Paul II’s writings have culled the treasures of our faith in a way that has laid the groundwork for co-creating a New Beginning aka the New Springtime aka the Full Triumph of Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart with the Period of Peace she promised aka the fulfillment of Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

How often you have reaffirmed, Charlie, that we don’t get heaven til we get there. Accepted and agreed even while I remember there was a time, in the beginning of time on earth, when Adam and Eve were so deeply connected with God. So, I continue to contemplate – in light of the promises, proclaimed and mentioned in the titles above – how we shall live, not in heaven, but on an earth renewed in a time made new. The Mediatrix of Graces will surely pour forth graces in the full Triumph of her Immaculate Heart. It has been her Maternal way since she was created to tend to us with all the power and glory of God invested in her since she was conceived, full of grace, FULL of Grace without a selfish speck within her. She expends every grace possible upon every child, that is every person in the whole human race, entrusted to her and whom she loves as much as she loves her first child, Jesus.

When all has been scrubbed and purified, as surely as the prodigal son received the best robe, ring, sandals, and fatted-calf with feasting and celebrating upon his return to the father, I just intuit, that our Mother has been ordained to go far beyond bestowing earthly treasure to welcome us back to the Father, through her Son, by the power of the Holy Spirit. I expect untold spiritual treasures to fall upon us as we take up living our ordinary lives centered on God.

Jesus spoke to Luisa Piccarreta of a spiritual gift for this time: Living in the Divine Will. For all the goofy, crazy, misguided ways the dialogues between Jesus and Luisa have been taught, both poorly and incorrectly, the true meaning of what Jesus has conveyed through Venerable Luisa is being and will continue to be gleaned. Jesus spoke of wishing to make of us living hosts. Not a novel idea to St. Augustine: “See what you believe… become what you see.” Yet, Jesus tells us, in the time when reparation has been fully made to the Father for the sins of our times He will bring forth a fulfillment of St. Augustine’s words in unique ways.

We watch, we wait and we pray while all the while TNRSing our way through this time of pain and sorrow to the New Tomorrow. We have never been nor will we ever be abandoned by Eucharistic Jesus…

          2. “Fides et Ratio” was breathtaking, eloquent, monumental and magisterial. Pope John Paul II was a giant of an intellect. When I think of his critics, I am reminded of the line from Lorraine Hansberry’s “A Raisin in the Sun” — “I am a giant surrounded by ants. Ants who can’t even understand what it is that the giant is talking about”. Of course JPII in his graciousness wouldn’t say that — I’m saying it for him. As my old Irish Literature Teacher used to say, “Giants are no longer in vogue.”

I also love Benedict’s “Deus Caritas Est” and his “Speech Salvi”. He is another superior intellect who opened his mind to the action of grace.

Drifting a bit, I encourage everyone to read Cardinal Robert Sarah’s books — “God or Nothing” and the “Power of Silence”. God protect him.

      2. Here is another take on the John Paul II hope of restoration in the church:
“Seeing this evil exposed in the Church can feel enormously defeating to those who hoped, with John Paul II, to see a new “springtime of the Church in the New Millennium.” What happened to the “John Paul II generation”? Was there not supposed to be a rising tide of orthodox, vigorous young Catholics, to sweep away whatever stagnant pools remained of the aging liberal heterodoxy of the ‘60s and ‘70s and bring the Church back to vibrant life?
Perhaps, however, that is looking at it upside-down. Perhaps the John Paul II generation—laity and clergy engendered with a love for the Church and courage to proclaim the truth—was intended for just this situation. We were not formed for the cushy life of cultural victory, to bask in a holy Church culture, but to do battle for that very culture. Perhaps this is why there is a “John Paul II generation” at all; not to stroll through adulthood enjoying the blossoms of the Church’s springtime, but to do the heavy work of preparing the fields to be fruitful when that spring comes. To speak out about infidelity in the clergy, lack of accountability among bishops, politicking and agendas in the curia, predatory homosexual networks in the seminaries; to do the hidden work of forming our families and communities daily with example and prayer; to stand unflinchingly alongside the victims and refuse let it all fade out of memory until justice is restored.”

Nice Phillip.  So it sounds like the JPII younger generation and those from Medjugorje will fill the clergy and move up the ranks over time.  I have heard it stated that about 1/3 of all new vocations are the result of Medjugorje.  This is true in my case (although my diaconate application was deffered for now for some personal reasons) and true for the priest recently leading groups there of which I participated in.  How exciting!  I will not despair!

      3. Yes, he covered so many things…I don’t know if he’s officially referred to as “St John Paul the Great” yet but it will ever be an understatement.
I think his writings on sexuality and the family are some of the most important beams in the barque that he’s made solid, and it will surely be seen as key in the future as this is the battle of our time.

  12. “Our Lady of Akita:
Pray very much the prayers of the Rosary. I alone am able still to save you from the calamites which approach. Those who place their confidence in me will be saved. “My child, they converse of the secret that I gave at Fatima. It is a simple explanation.

It could not be fully revealed because of the drastic nature of My message. How I warned and warned that satan would enter into the highest realms of the hierarchy in Rome. The Third Secret, My child, is that satan would enter into My Son’s Church.” – Our Lady of the Roses, May 13, 1978. Lady of Akita Prophecies”
    http://www.alamongordo.com/lady-of-akita-prophecies/

It seems likely that now after the 3rd secret of Fatima has been revealed, our Lady at Akita had already interpreted what the 3rd secret meant. That satan would enter into the highest realms of the Church, Given the state of what appears to be a largely homosexual hierarchy and that a new Vatican agency will now be able to act in matters of faith and moral without the Congregation of the Faith, that the enemies with the Church will now attempt to pollute the Church and create grave heresy upon her.

This according to an article written by By Rev. Michael X., J.C.L.
    https://www.churchmilitant.com/news/article/a-perfect-trojan-horse

“Pope Francis has promulgated a new apostolic constitution on the Synod of Bishops that, for all intents and purposes, is a perfect Trojan Horse for injecting heresy on a global scale into the Church. If left unchecked, revolutionaries will be able to turn all Synod-approved “heteropraxes,” or novel disciplinary rules that run counter to the Deposit of Faith, into the new and official belief system of the Catholic Church. It is a brilliantly conceived device for engineering substantial and overnight change to all facets of the life of the Church as we know her.”

The 3rd secret may not mean that the Pope would be shot and killed but rather an attempt to have the Papacy itself shot and killed. This current pope is not shepherding his flock he is letting the wolves shepherd the flock and ceding his authority to them through this new Synod.

I believe that Akita is an affirmation of Fatima. When Fatima was first revealed my first thoughts were that there was a physical war whereby the Vatican would be destroyed and the last few were dead and wounded and the pope would be killed perhaps because of an invasion by Jihadists, given that the Akita prophecies indicated that more that a third of mankind would die.

“It will be a punishment greater than the deluge, such as one will never have seen before. Fire will fall from the sky and will wipe out a great part of humanity, the good as well as the bad, sparing neither priests nor faithful. The survivors will find themselves so desolate that they will envy the dead.”

While interpreting prophesy one can be lead to false conclusions, Akita seems pretty clear. Whether this fire is man made, but allowed by God, or this is God’s love rejected by mankind and now becomes an inferno of their hatred for God, it does not make much difference. There are going to be a lot of dead. To me both prophesies are figurative and allegoric and spiritual and physically life threatening.

And to avoid all of this, all that at least one Pope of the last 100 years had to do was mention the words , I consecrate RUSSIA to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Yet the word RUSSIA was never stated emphatically by any of them. How ever much good Pope JPII was he could not choke out that one word.

    1. So much here to consider and reflect upon, Gary. One thing is for certain, according to the very instrument chosen by Our Lord and Our Lady to promote and proclaim the Fatima messages for her entire lifetime since Our Lady came to Fatima. Indeed, the consecration requested by Our Lady has been fulfilled. Sr. Lucia has been strong and certain in her reassurance of this reality. https://www.ewtn.com/expert/answers/fatima1984.htm

      1. JPII was not the only Pope that did this consecration with out mentioning RUSSIA. Given the fact that this current pope has run roughshod over the Deposit of Faith and the current state of the homosexual crisis I do not think our Lady’s request was fullfilled. I am glad that the Holy Spirit has been shinning His Light on the political and Church scandals, the satanic enemy will cause as much catastrophe as possible. I read somewhere that all we can at this point by prayers and reparations is to mitigate the coming tragedy. It is way too late to stop it.

        1. Your opening line is true. However, St. John Paul II IS the only Pope who received Heaven’s endorsement of “consecration fulfilled” via the seer and message bearer, Sr. Lucia. Amen to ongoing mitigation.

    2. I’m sure most of you have noticed that I “like” most blogs written. I want to clarify that I don’t necessarily ” like” Gary’s last paragraph. It’s just my way of also saying thank you for taking the time and effort to write something, thank you for taking the time and effort to look up and provide links to important and interesting subjects, and thank you for stating your feelings thus giving others an opportunity to begin a conversation on them to rebut them, or to correct the information.

I wish I could write more often, but my physical condition keeps me from doing so. But, know that I look forward to coming here every day, reading all that’s been written, and consider you all as my friends. And I include all of your intentions daily in my rosary.

  13. At yesterday’s Santa Marta Mass, Pope Francis gave a very strong homily which unquestionably was directed at the widespread criticisms he is being subjected to within many Catholic groups at the current time. It is reported at:

    https://www.vaticannews.va/en/pope-francis/mass-casa-santa-marta/2018-09/pope-at-santa-marta-mass-jesus-teaches-true-love.html

Although I realize I’m very much in a minority on this blog, I have viewed Pope Francis very much as a Jesus like figure from the beginning and nothing has occured since that discourages me in that view. This latest homily is really hitting home in my view and I wonder whether it might lead to similar developments that happened to Jesus when he made very similar comments about the Pharisees of his time.

It was seeing the reference to the Fatima Third Secret that encouraged me to reflect on the current situation in the Church with regard to that prophecy. At the time, the reflections of the Secret by the then Cardinal Ratzinger and others seemed inadequate if only because they linked the non-fatal attack on Pope John Paul with the Pope in the Secret, even though the latter is killed. I am beginning to feel very strongly that the ‘bishop in white’ of the Secret is actually referring to Pope Francis. The extent and nature of the opposition to Francis seems almost like a re-run of what happened to Jesus. Time will tell whether this interpretation will prove accurate. I certainly go along with the comment Beckita has highlighted – “Expect the unexpected”.

    1. David, all people of good will are welcome here, whether we agree or disagree. It’s when the disagreements find a person making personal attacks against another that the parameters of the comment policy must be enforced. We’ve been reading the homilies from Pope Francis in this house lately. And I greatly disagree that Pope Francis is looking like Jesus in his refusal to respond to the faithful clergy and laity who respectfully cry out for him to convene a thorough investigation of all that has transpired.

Here, I note, as I have before that there ARE people who have harshly criticized Pope Francis from the inception of his papacy. That is not the case in this community where he was welcomed, supported and protected from unfair accusations. Serious developments have now occurred which have caused many to take pause and reflect on what this Pope is doing. In the USA alone there are the questions about McCarrick and why and how Pope Francis could have quietly “rehabilitated” such a sick and dangerous prelate. Of course, we have no right to know anyone’s confessional material BUT we do know that the sickness of any human, engaging in homosexual acts and aggressively acting as a groomer and perpetrator of abuse of the vulnerable must be removed from places where children and others are placed at risk. Then there’s the Grand Jury report from Pennsylvania stating that the trail of abuse of power goes all the way to the Vatican. Finally, strong and faithful prelates in the US speak to the integrity and vast knowledge which Archbishop Vigano has had about these matters so that these prelates encourage Pope Francis to launch an investigation. And he chooses silence. It is Pope Francis who has so beautifully preached about the value of encounter, about the benefits of dialogue and he now chooses silence. This is not a good silence. The Lord Himself said: “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” There is nothing whatsoever hypocritical in wanting to pursue the truth about the current scandals. And the word, “scandal,” is exactly apropos for what we have discovered in the last several months, for a scandal is “an action or event regarded as morally or legally wrong and causing general public outrage.”

So, there you have it, some agree that the Pope needs to pursue getting to the bottom of the truth in all these problems we face. They speak and write about the importance of a thorough investigation and remark how angry and frustrated they are with Pope Francis’ choice to remain silent. The good and faithful clergy and laity in my locale and on this blog who are in the camp of desiring an investigation are not at all Pharisaical. The ones I know are loyal to the Church, obey the Pope in faith and morals, and serve the Church with Love. Yet, others who also love the Church, think it is not right to question the Holy Father because he is the Pope and then they accuse those who speak against Pope Francis’ silence as being too harsh on him. Time will tell what Our Lord thinks. Gamaliel comes to mind. If those seeking an investigation are acting of God, He will bless their efforts with fruitfulness. If such a course of action displeases Him it will fall into nothingness. Indeed, time will tell.

God bless you, David, and all your good apostolic works for Our Lord and Our Lady.

      1. Beckita, your post reminded me of an impression I gained reading Archbishop Viganò’s account of “what really happened” when Pope Francis met privately with Kim Davis in September 2015. Read the Archbishop’s account, translated, toward the bottom of this article:

        https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/exclusive-vigano-reveals-what-really-happened-when-pope-francis-met-private

My impression is that, especially when Pope Francis returned to Rome (see the passage where Archbishop Viganò meets with Pope Francis), he and his message were being “handled” by Vatican insiders.

Saint Pope John Paul II the Great, pray for us.

        1. You know, Sr. Bear, for a long time I viewed the mess Pope Francis inherited and often wondered at poor counsel being part of his questionable appointments and other decision-making… and maybe that is so and still continues but, still, Pope Francis is responsible for what he says and does and if, indeed, he knows he’s received poor counsel, he has every right and responsibility as the Supreme Pontiff to investigate and remove bad actors. But he does nothing of the sort. He could use his strength of will – and he continually exhibits he is strong-willed – to insist on surrounding himself with trusted, wise advisors.

I consider this with the talk which former Cardinal McCarrick gave at Villanova on 10-1-13 and think the “bad counsel clerics” in the Roman Curia got behind the election of then Cardinal Bergoglio, not just because they could manipulate him, but because these bad actors knew that Cardinal Bergoglio would readily work with them. A point has been made, from the research of the author Henry Sire who wrote, The Dictator Pope, – a book I totally ignored in my days of defending Pope Francis, thinking what you have suggested about Vatican insiders handling things for him – and Sire notes that Pope Francis formation with the Jesuits occurred at a time when most Jesuits had abandoned the original spirit of their founder. I certainly have seen such evidence in the Jesuits from my own area who are similar in age to our current Pope.

While I admired Pope Francis’ desire to open wide the Doors of Mercy, reaching out to bring the lost home, in my view, he falls into a “mercy for all” way of thinking without fully stressing and teaching the necessity for and beauty of repentance. Everything is forgivable by the Lord. Truly, as He told St. Faustina, the greater the sin, the greater right that sinner has to his Mercy. But we know the ever ancient ever new reality of the response God expects to His Mercy: Jesus loves us just as we are, even the worst of sinners, and He loves us with the Perfect Love that expects us to leave sin behind and begin anew to fully live the Gospel. While I think Pope Francis’ intent in Amoris Laetitia may well have been to encourage the Church to go out and minister to the ones who thought they had no way home to the Church, I look at his silence in the face of the Dubia – a choice… and his chosen silence in the face of whole bishop conferences, in disobedience to Magisterial teaching, having proclaimed that folks in “irregular” marriages can simply consult their own conscience – no mind if it’s not a conscience formed by Church teaching – and come forth to receive communion. My view only, but I see a Pope who is internally conflicted for he knows his role is to defend and proclaim Magisterial teaching AND he wants Mercy for all so badly that he is playing with over-riding each one’s God-given free will in this sense: The Lord extends His covenant to humanity with the clear criteria of the Ten Commandments for us to keep. This is the very way we reveal if we truly love Him: “If you love me, keep my commands.” (John 14:15) Every good confessor knows he has the responsibility to deny absolution to the penitent if he is not firm in his intent to amend his life. Here, I think, is where Pope Francis goes awry: he wants to grant mercy without urging and insisting on a change of lifestyle. And this is Magisterial teaching.

All these actions – and more – are why I no longer think about poor Pope Francis because of poor advice and Vatican insiders doing bad things in his name. He knows just what he’s doing and just what they are doing.

          1. You could well be right, Beckita, for all of the reasons you give.

My comment above was meant to describe an impression I got from reading Archbishop Viganò’s account. Even Archbishop Viganò described his own positive feelings in the meetings with Pope Francis, which were completely at odds with statements of some of the Vatican “handlers.”

While Pope Francis is ultimately responsible to fulfill the difficult duties of his office, I just wonder if McCarrick et al promoted him precisely because they knew he could be controlled. This is speculation on my part, of course.

            1. Thanks for clarifying, Sr. Bear. I have also wondered what you have expressed here. The code name Lavender Mafia must surely reflect that members employ typical Mafioso tactics to control others and events. For sure, in my mind anyway, the current situation can impel one to rely completely on God. And that is one good which can be drawn from all of this.

            2. I don’t think he was promoted because they could control him, but because he was (is?) of like mind. Let me put it this way. I donate money to pro life causes, not because I can control them, but because they represent what I stand for. I think they knew were pope Francis stood prior to his election and had confidence he would push their agenda.

As an aside, my reaction was similar to yours Becks when he was elected. I have seen so many compromised Jesuits that my heart sank a little when I learned he was a Jesuit. I thought, oh no. Well, I used to pray for Pope Francis intentions. I have changed my prayers for him such that I pray for his conversion. Lord have mercy on us all!

          2. Beckita, your comments reminded me of a situation I have with someone I know personally. This person has not been to confession for at least the last twenty years that I’m sure of. When begged by his wife and children to please go, the youngest even begging him to come when she was making her first communion. His answer is adamant. “I was taught by the JESUITS, and I was taught that you don’t have to go to confession unless you commit a mortal sin.” He was educated in a Jesuit academy forty some years ago, in a South American country. And when several mortal sins were committed that almost broke up the marriage, the excuse was that, “that’s just what south american men do, it’s no big deal. And this person goes to Mass and Communion EVERY Sunday.

I never gave any thought beyond this person of the enormity of the situation until you mentioned Pope
Francis’s education. And now as I think of it, it goes way beyond the Jesuits, education. Imagine how many children were taught these same incorrect rules of the Catholic Church in the last fifty years and more. How many souls are in danger. I just pray daily that the illumination comes before his death. And that the illumination shows the many (hundreds of thousands at least) of children the error they were
taught and they aren’t too stubborn to accept it. I know the wife is a CCD teacher, and has tried for 21 years. So here’s one more thing to add to our prayer list. It’s beginning to take as much time to enumerate the prayers intentions as it is to say the prayer. So I ask for prayers from all of you for this poor mans soul. I am so thankful to God for giving me the physical strength to get one more comment written. That’s three in two days. That’s more then I’ve written in the last three years.God bless.

I wrote about him to be able to bring up how he was educated in those beliefs and to make the point of how many hundred of thousands of other children, and adults now, are living in sin, and desecrating the Eucharist every Sunday because of learning there religion from the JESUITS in south america just like him. .It was just such a shock to me to realize how far reaching these lies are, and how many generations they have affected.

            1. Dolordee, I have committed to pray the St. Bridget 12 year prayer with 5 distinct promises. On of which is you can apply the associate graces to 3 souls of your choice for their salvation. I have completed over one year. It takes 10 min a day. Anyway, one of my offerings was for a friend’s father. He wanted nothing to do with the church. The day before he died, he received last rites. One snatched from the evil one! I have not told my friend I applied my prayer for his father. No need to. Hearing he made it is its own reward.

Every now and then, when I get discouraged about why I am praying this, St. Bridget sends me a little and subtle reminder that lifts my spirits and gives me renewed fervor. I am in it for the long haul. Only 10 1/2 more years to go. Actually, I love it so much that it is a part of me and suspect I will not stop after 12 years ☺

              1. Thank you Doug, you just gave me a great idea. Years ago I prayed the St Bridget one year prayer, the one with 15 parts to it. I prayed it for my son, and it was answered , My memory isn’t so good, but I think it was answered as soon as I finished the prayers. It’s not an easy prayer, as you can’t miss too many days, and if you do you have to make them up.But I’m sure you’re acquainted with this prayer.

Well, I told the wife about this prayer, as her son quit going to church, and was getting into trouble with drinking and drugs. So she has been saying them for him, but has missed a lot of days. So she is going to start again, and add her husband as one of the intentions. This prayer is in the blue Pieta book. I don’t see the prayer that you are praying. Is it in the book also?

What a lovely thing you are doing for your friends. Your right, once you get started it does become a part of you. A year ago I made the 9 day novena to Jesus, King of all Nations, and after the first one, I just kept going, and say it every night, because as you said, it becomes a part of you, and this one only takes 10 min. also. Since I never know what day i’m on, I just keep on going. And I do love this one also.

Do you remember the experience I had last year with a man that appeared to be burnt handing me a small brown object every time I closed my eyes while I tried to say the Divine Mercy Chaplet? I recognized the object and it was a small brown plaque of Our Lady of Olives. You commented that he could be from purgatory asking for prayers. When I researched this, I found out that in 1493 when a church in Spain or Italy (I can’t remember which) burnt down the caretaker was the only one that lost his life, and even though the church burned to the ground, the statue of Our Lady of Olives remained untouched. There was a prayer attached to this happening which Beckita commented that it sounds as if written just for these times, and that made a lot of sense. I just think I was meant to say that prayer, and maybe make it known, and I have said that also every day since. Thank you again.

                1. That is wonderful Dolordee! As we age or become more infirm, our prayers take on deeper meaning. The suffering adds opportunity to our prayers. My wife is a 3 time survivor. You may have heard this before. Through 6 major surgeries and many minor ones, we have grown closer to each other and to God. God has revealed many things to me about us of which one was that it was not a mistake that we came together. My wife was also abandoned at age one and instututionlized in a hospital for mentally handicapped until she was four and a half. There is much more to the story, but she suffered many insecurities as a child that also affected or marriage relationship especially when kids came along. By the way, my wife graduated magna cum laud from college to show how far she came. Anyway, during one prayer event, it was like I was allowed to see here soul, but from God’s perspective and it was like the most treasured thing in the world and then I realized, I did not choose my wife. God chose me to be there for her to counter all the negative and insecurity through her whole life. He gave me a special privilege to lover her and in effect, die for her. This was such a gift for me.

Well, this brought our relationship to a whole new level after 22 years of marriage (been married for 33 wonderful years now). I never viewed her as a charity case, but my wife, friend and lover. She is my closest confident on earth and there are no secrets between us. Anyway, God has made her into the greatest woman I admire and cherish. She has such a strong faith. I like to say now, “she has less body parts, but she is more whole than ever”. Only God can do this.

So where am I going with all this? Point is, we have to suffer and grind things out for a long period, but don’t give up. It is important that the prayer takes time. It is ok to start the prayer with selfish motives, but by the time you are done, you are a changed person it works on yourself as much as it is efficacious towards others with the promises.

That gentleman from 1493 will be greeting you in heaven because of what you have done today. Our prayers are not time bound. I will email the St. Bridget prayer to Beckita and hopefully, she can send it along to you. God bless you!

                  1. Thank you so much for sharing this Doug. Such a beautiful story. I sometimes think God picked my husband for me also. I have been a widow for 27 years, but I was given the grace to lead him closer to God the last year of his life as he suffered through his bouts of cancer. The family rosary was said each night for him, and we were gifted with having the traveling Tilma at our house during this time.My daughter was given permission to leave the cloistered Pasionist convent for a mo. and be at his bedside. The prayer that I keep refering to is a prayer for Mary’s intercession for humanity during these times although given in 1493. But you still may be right, I will offer the 12 yr prayer for the burnt man just in case.

I just saw the prayer you asked Beckita to provide a link to, and it’s beautiful. I wholeheartedly intend to say it.

I’m going to include the prayer I feel led to, just in case others can see how it seems intended for our time.

Kneeling at thy feet, we pray Thee Virgin Mary, that through thy intercession, there may be borne a new generation who will unite all hearts and souls in the same faith and the same charity. We pray thee”Divine Olive of Peace”, to implore God that harmony may reign between nations, that true liberty be given to all people, that heresies and all bad doctrines condemned by the pope may disappear. We pray that all the treasures of Thy Divine Heart be showered upon all men, and that we be preserved from all harm. Pray for us, help us, and save us. Amen

How beautiful it is to have those graces showered on you at those critical times Dolordee. God bless you!

This book changed my life. I have known of it for years prior, as My Father had purchased many and mailed to others. I remember him having a huge box of them for delivery. Anyhow, I discovered one of these books and decided to read anew. It scared the living daylights out of me. The first half deals with Justice, the second Mercy.

Many days later, probably a few weeks I notice a fellow prayer warrior praying the Saint Bridget 12 year prayers… I asked John why do you pray that every day? He showed me the graces received: notably on top of the list: the soul who prays this suffer no purgatory. Ding, ding! I’m in.

This is before I realized what a Plenary Indulgence or Divine Mercy Sunday is.

Now, I meet another (elderly) prayer warrior and show him my new found treasure. He remarks he’ll not be alive (prior to completion) in the next twelve years. I show him the grace he gets if he dies prior to the 12 yrs, as he shall receive full benefits as if he had prayed in its entirety.

I love observing Ed praying the St abridget prayers prior to mass 🙂 for the past five years…

  14. Another sign of hope…our own catholic history:
“They are always telling us that priests and ceremonies are not religion and that religious organization can be a hollow sham; but they hardly realise how true it is. It is so true that three or four times at least in the history of Christendom the whole soul seemed to have gone out of Christianity; and almost every man in his heart expected its end…. When suddenly Christianity rose again and threw them, it was almost as unexpected as Christ rising from the dead.
Christianity has died many times and risen again, for it had a God who knew the way out of the grave.
…This is the final fact, and it is the most extraordinary of all. The faith has not only often died but it has often died of old age….it has survived not only war but peace. It has not only died often but degenerated often and decayed often; it has survived its own weakness and even its own surrender… It ended and it began again.

I think it is long past time that married Priests/Clergy be considered! It just occurred to me that the “clinging to celibate clergy ideal” was/is just a perfect way to protect and advance the Pervert Mafia in the Church. As I write this, I also recall, early in the Pope’s Papacy, that the question of a Vatican Gay Mafia arose and Francis/Pals laughed it off as a “Vast Right Wing Conspiracy”. Yup!! I’m thinking that what we are really about to witness is an unraveling of a Global & Vast Lavender Left Wing Conspiracy in The Church, USA/Canada & Old Christendom. The sooner de better as Time is Short!! ….. and… not long ago we would have been upset of all these bad news Stories but as it’s an Isaiah 5 World we live in, The Bad News is now Good news as it adds to The Cold Anger of The faithful and increases the volume and demands for AWAKENING, INVESTAGATION, JUSTICE & RENEWAL!!

    1. CD, after reading the first link where stricter measures will be put in place, warning flags go up.  The core of the issues is homosexuality.  This needs to be uprooted and abuse will die down significantly.  If this is not done, we will likely see rinse and repeat of 2002.  Our leaders need to be above reproach.  The scriptures tell us we are to judge those in the church (cor 5:12).  It makes sense because they lead many souls.  James 3:1 says to not aspire to teach, because the one who teaches will be held to signoficantly higher accountability.  I am grateful you are a watchman on the wall here.

    2. But, Crew Dog, would not the homosexual priests soon demand to marry also. 81% of the abuse was homosexual on young men and teen boys. The sacrament of marriage would have to be redefined. So much for the image of the Holy Family as an example of marriage. Didn’t they already start to do this by accepting divorced unannuled marriages for reception of Communion. It just seems to me that they fundamentally have to change the sacraments (except Baptism). I was informed a long time ago by a Presbyterian friend who challenged the Catholic understanding of the Eucharist that they only had one sacrament and that was Baptism. In any case it all seems to me a free for all. Do whatever you want and through God’s mercy you go to heaven. PF has a elderly atheist Italian columnist friend who reported that PF said there was no hell. Quite a storm in the press over that one because that led to the conclusion that Hitler was forgiven. PF did not clarify. In any case again, I’m feeling a whole like the Prodical son’s brother. Now while I want to be treated like the Prodical son at my judgement by Jesus, when I hear that parable, I find myself looking back at his brother and thinking he deserves at least a pat on the back for his faithfulness. I don’t know, am I making any sense?

  16. I sent a request to my Pastor to incorporate the Stations of the Cross after each mass celebration. This would allow all partipants a Plenary Indulgence. Definitively.

In order to receive a Plenary Indulgence, one must be free of all sin: Mortal and Venial. Only two instances I know this to be true: immediately after reconciliation and reception of the Eucharist.

As we all know, we are in dire times, I think it is a positive step to display the power and authority of the Church in dispensation of grace. Also, I believe it will allow other ‘talking points’ to arise and alleviate concerns for loved ones.

I have made this a daily routine, hoping others would join or follow. Usually, I offer the Plenary Indulgence for a Holy Soul in purgatory but sometimes, as need arises I take one for myself, if I’ve been ‘bad’.

As God sees us all us sinners, it is my belief He sees the punnishment owed to His Justice. For me, what better way can I say thank you than being as clean as possible. How much better if He saw Parish after Parish, across our Countries ceasing to be afflicted and to be Blessed.

    Cheers,

    1. Sean, I have actually started doing the same. A quick inquiry, if I may Sean, are the recitation of the Creed and praying for the Popes intentions required for the indulgence as well?
      Thank you! ❤

      1. Thanks Lynn. I don’t know if the creed and prayers for the Holy Father (Pope) are needed. I pray for his intentions several times a day. Here is what the Vatican has to declare in the Catechism:

        http://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG0015/_P4G.HTM

        {QUOTE}
Obtaining indulgence from God through the Church

1478 An indulgence is obtained through the Church who, by virtue of the power of binding and loosing granted her by Christ Jesus, intervenes in favor of individual Christians and opens for them the treasury of the merits of Christ and the saints to obtain from the Father of mercies the remission of the temporal punishments due for their sins. Thus the Church does not want simply to come to the aid of these Christians, but also to spur them to works of devotion, penance, and charity.89

1479 Since the faithful departed now being purified are also members of the same communion of saints, one way we can help them is to obtain indulgences for them, so that the temporal punishments due for their sins may be remitted.

      2. Jen and Sean, here’s info for obtaining indulgences. Fr. Wang said the criteria that people often skip over is “detachment from sin…. even venial.” Doesn’t mean we will ever be perfect on this side of the veil but that we truly strive without becoming scrupulous.

        https://www.ewtn.com/expert/answers/indulgences_conditions.htm

The traditional norm for going to confession, receiving Holy Communion, and praying for the intentions of the pope, in order to gain a plenary indulgence, was 8 days before or after doing the prescribed work (counting the day of the work). In the Great Jubilee Year 2000, the Apostolic Penitentiary relaxed this norm to “several days (about 20) before or after the indulgenced act” (Gift of the Indulgence, General remarks, 5). The question often arises whether this norm of about 20 days applied only to the Great Jubilee Year Indulgence, or whether it remains in effect.

In an answer to a question posed by this author, the Apostolic Penitentiary responded that this norm of “about 20 days” remains in effect, since it was contained under the “General remarks on indulgences,” and not under those specific to the Jubilee Indulgence.

The following “General remarks on Indulgences” from Gift of the Indulgence summarizes, therefore, the usual conditions given in the Church’s law:
        1. This is how an indulgence is defined in the Code of Canon Law (can. 992) and in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (n. 1471): “An indulgence is a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven, which the faithful Christian who is duly disposed gains under certain prescribed conditions through the action of the Church which, as the minister of redemption, dispenses and applies with authority the treasury of the satisfactions of Christ and the saints”.

        2. In general, the gaining of indulgences requires certain prescribed conditions (below, nn. 3, 4), and the performance of certain prescribed works …..

[N.B. The grants of indulgence are contained in the Enchiridion Indulgentiarum (4th ed., 1999), in special grants of the Holy See, such as for the Year of the Holy Eucharist, and in special grants which bishops may establish for their dioceses.]

        3. To gain indulgences, whether plenary or partial, it is necessary that the faithful be in the state of grace at least at the time the indulgenced work is completed.

[N.B. Thus, one must be a Catholic in communion with the Pope, i.e. not excommunicated or in schism.]

        4. A plenary indulgence can be gained only once a day. In order to obtain it, the faithful must, in addition to being in the state of grace:

        —have the interior disposition of complete detachment from sin, even venial sin;

        —have sacramentally confessed their sins;

        —receive the Holy Eucharist (it is certainly better to receive it while participating in Holy Mass, but for the indulgence only Holy Communion is required);

—pray for the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff.

        5. It is appropriate, but not necessary, that the sacramental Confession and especially Holy Communion and the prayer for the Pope’s intentions take place on the same day that the indulgenced work is performed; but it is sufficient that these sacred rites and prayers be carried out within several days (about 20) before or after the indulgenced act. Prayer for the Pope’s intentions is left to the choice of the faithful, but an “Our Father” and a “Hail Mary” are suggested. One sacramental Confession suffices for several plenary indulgences, but a separate Holy Communion and a separate prayer for the Holy Father’s intentions are required for each plenary indulgence.

        6. For the sake of those legitimately impeded, confessors can commute both the work prescribed and the conditions required (except, obviously, detachment from even venial sin).

        7. Indulgences can always be applied either to oneself or to the souls of the deceased, but they cannot be applied to other persons living on earth.

        1. For many years (perhaps over 25) I have made it a practice to go to confession every 2 weeks as that covers every day of the year according to the old rule of confession within 8 days in order to receive a plenary indulgence. While being a sponsor for someone going through RCIA in preparation for baptism, I also attended the meetings. The old nun (none) who was giving the lessons stated that when she was in the novitiate, they used to go to confession every week and she could see no reason for it. As soon as I got a chance, I offered that when I was in the seminary, we also went to confession every week and it was less about sin and more about growth in the spiritual life. She ignored me and went right on.
I don’t even remember why I was inspired to go to the seminary at fourteen years old but I was very serious about my faith the three first years of high school while was there and all my life thereafter. In the middle of the third year , my junior year, I knew I no longer belonged there and left at the end of the school year. I guess I was not called to be a priest but God lead me there to give me something very important that I would never have gotten otherwise. Being the ninth of fourteen children had already launched me into a unique life already. To this day, when my plans don’t go as I had planned, I step back and look for the new opportunities that presents. In my sophomore year, I looked at life and concluded that if you only look for the big things in life, they are few and far between. But if you learn to enjoy the little things, there will be much to enjoy.
There you now know more about me than you ever wanted. Thank you for your patience. May the Holy Spirit protect and guide us, Lead us to all holiness and truth in these most trying times as we weather the storm as the Rescue progresses to the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Our Blessed Mother..

          1. Thanks for this reflection and sharing, JAS. Frequent confession is a mighty source of graces and blessings. I am spoiled for opportunities to confess as I collaborate with and provide care for the soon-to-be ninety year old priest. Here’s a wonderful book which addresses the benefits of frequent confession.

About the book: Frequent Confession presents convincing and strong evidence for the benefits of frequent reception of the sacrament of Penance for the health and growth of the spiritual life of all faithful. “To win the battles of the soul, the best strategy often is to bide one’s time and apply the suitable remedy with patience and perseverance.” So wrote Blessed Josemaria Escriva, the founder of Opus Dei who tirelessly urged the practice of frequent confession for spiritual advancement. The book is divided into two parts. The first shows the purpose and practice of confession from the aspect of confessor penitent. The second examines the many area where confession applies. An extensive introduction was written by Rev. Salvador Ferigle, who as a layman in 1949 began the apostolate of Opus Dei in the U.S. and died in 1997 at 72. The book is newly indexed.

We met on your your tour. I was one of your drivers in DC/MD/VR. I recently got the chance to meet Senator Corker. I think he seems poised to run for President. He leaves the senate at the end of his present term as he promised. If you can influence his people in anyway with advice I heartily recommend it.

He is the “middle of the roader” with pro life conservative sensible policies.

Praying for the right leader to come along after this present chaos. Trump is helping to break the log jam and bring drastic change but we need more level heads for the future.

          1. Thanks Kim. I agree he is not conservative enough but you have to start somewhere in this divisive society.

Corker may not be conservative enough but when looking at our choices and the opposition— He just might bring those who are not rabid leftists but liberal reasonable humans to a more nuanced and rational healthy viewpoint. He has a likable manner and a keen mind and seems to be genuinely interested in our country rather than political power for it’s own sake. I don’t see another Republican right now that can in-gender trust, confidence and ability to unite the reasonable middle of the left and the right into directing their gaze to the good of the country and not an agenda.

Corker is an excellent speaker. That talent I think propelled Obama into the limelight. He sounded good if you didn’t pay any attention to what he actually meant.

Time will tell… God is in-charge. If we pray and seek His face He may smile on our poor pathetic efforts and bless us with a good leader. I pray for someone whom you do not have to hold our nose or cross our fingers when pulling the lever in the ballot box.

            1. Mick, I believe the Republicans knew this was coming. McConnell has a spine because Trump is helping them all via intelligence about this effort for months prior to the hearing. The Republicans have the goods on these bad faith people and are giving them lots of rope. Let them keep paying out that rope for a little while longer. Then we’ll see if I’m correct in my interpretation of these events. I believe Kavanaugh will be confirmed after all the hijinks have caused many more people to wake up and see the true colors of the Left. It will not be pretty, but all this will be effective.

          2. Kim Sevier, I definitely agree that in the past many Republicans have been amazingly weak-kneed and in some cases in cahoots with the Democrats. However, in this case, the Kavanaugh hearings and votes, the Republicans are doing something different. The Republicans are taking a page out of the Trump approach and are letting the Left destroy themselves, partly by acting weak when they are not.

This is what JTBrannigan was highlighting in the prayer he quoted here:

            https://asignofhope442992340.wordpress.com/2018/09/20/real-votes-fatima-and-other-signs-of-hope/comment-page-2/#comment-13491

I don’t know what Corker’s part in this will be, nor if it will be helpful or not. However, there is a lot going on with the Kavanaugh situation that is not typical of the past. I really believe the good guys are letting the bad guys show their true colors for all of us to see and be appalled by, and then Kavanaugh will be confirmed. Despite what you will hear in the media, the Democrats and Leftists are losing big time with this. Sometimes, God works by letting the bad side out themselves via their own delusions and bad faith.

              1. Kim, many of those you see acting crazy now will be allies in the future. Only a relative few will remain unrepenting and unredeemed when this great time is done, and none of us can know who they might turn out to be. How many of us here will be the catalyst for helping others who are seemingly unredeemable become allies as this unfolds? Who will ultimately be wheat and who the chaff? We cannot leave anyone unaided.

    1. Hear Hear, Jen! The great ripple effect, please God, has begun. As Papa/Uncle/Brother Sherpa has done with his talents and knowledge in taking his next right step, let us, little sherpas (with all the great power God infuses into littleness and hiddeness), do with our particular talents and knowledge in our next right steps. Certainly dated and perhaps a wee corny, I love the concept in this song, especially: it only takes a spark to get a fire glowing.

    1. CD, this Spectator article is a humdinger! It’s just one revelation after another. My constant question with each revelation/offense, is what will it take to clean up the whole Church, the entire Lavender Mafia. I’m convinced only a might act of God can do it. It’s so big (combined with Freemasonry and the rest, all the way to the Vatican), that it would take years for humans to eradicate it all. We’ll just have to wait and see which way it occurs. The Lord can do anything; “Nothing is impossible with God!” Oremus!

  18. who knows what will happen but it comes back to me that at least one pope had died before he was able to finalize an intent to enact a heresy upon the Church. In order for a heretical proclamation by a new synod of a picked minority of bishops to become part of the magisterium teaching of the Church, the pope must sign it to enact it.

  19. Well, I’ve taken my pain med’s and i’m sitting here with the keyboard on my lap, so maybe I can type a little more and share with you something that happened to me twenty some years ago. This seems like the perfect time to share it, as it fits right in with the prophesies already mentioned here.

When my daughter was eighteen she painted an oil painting of the “end times”. She can’t remember what gave her the idea, but she just got up one morning and started to paint. In the picture the earth, (as a globe} was entirely on fire, and one was looking down on it from a 3D chunk of land up in the sky. On this piece of land were several small white cabin like structures, surrounding a fountain in the middle, and a small church, all painted white. In the background were mountain ranges.

We were to go to a picnic at a friends house here in Pa., and friends from Canada that were staying at my house were going also. One of the friends was a visionary. When they saw the picture they made me take it to the picnic, as Blessed Maria Esperanza was also going, and insisted I show it to her.

She was there with three of her children and her husband. When she saw the picture she left out a yell. And started excitedly yelling her husbands name, “Geo, Geo, look” that’s Venezuela, you can tell by the shape of the mountain ranges that you see from our place. And the cabins are exactly what we have in mind of building as a refuge. They were so taken aback by this oil painting that they took it with them.

Some time after that I had a “dream”, but it wasn’t a dream. All I remember is that I was sleeping when I was shown something. I was standing on this chunk of land looking down at the earth burning, wondering where the family was as I have six children, and 15 grandchildren, when one of my daughters walked up to me and said everyone’s here mom, except one of her brothers. I remember standing there waiting for him, and he shortly wafted in, in the air.

What does this mean?, I don’t know. For years I have pondered this. Blessed Maria didn’t ever say that she saw the earth on fire, just that there would be a refuge. I just often pondered if we would be taken somewhere while the earth was purified, and burning, then put back down there. But with all the different scenarios depicted after this writing of Charlie’s, I thought it may be interesting to describe and share this as Blessed Maria Esperanza got so excited in seeing this depiction of the ” end times”

What I find so interesting in our day is how a protestant American President is such a good example of how a Christian leader should be, as long as we can let bygones be bygones. While the Holy Father seems to be so confusing. God bless America and God bless our Holy Father. We will get there in the end as long as we TNRS and trust in God.

  22. I just got through reading the book, Fatima in Lucia’s own words, Sister Lucia’s memoirs, edited by a father Louis Kondor, and I found this on page 199 and I will try and give you the text as it was written. It was at this time that Our Lady informed me to make known to Holy Church her desire for the Consecration of Russia, and her promise to convert it. The communication was as follows: 13-6-1929. I had sought and obtained permission from my superiors and confessor to make a Holy Hour from eleven o’clock until midnight, every Thursday to Friday night. Being alone one night, I knelt near the alter rails in the middle of the chapel and prostrate, I prayed the prayers of the Angel. Feeling tired, I then stood up and continued to say the prayers with my arms in the form of a cross. The only light was that of the sanctuary lamp. Suddenly, the whole chapel was illuminated by a supernatural light, and above the alter appeared a cross of light, reaching to the ceiling. In a brighter light on the upper part of the cross, could be seen the face of a man and his body as far as the waist, upon his breast was a dove of light, nailed to the cross was the body of another man. A little below the waist, I could see a chalice and a large host suspended in the air, onto which drops of blood were falling from the face of Jesus Crucified and from the wound in His side. These drops ran down onto the host and fell into the chalice. Beneath the right arm of the cross was Our Lady of Fatima, with her Immaculate Heart in her left hand, (It was Our Lady of Fatima, with her Immaculate Heart in her left hand, without sword or roses, but with a crown of thorns and flames). Under the left arm of the cross, large letters, as if written in crystal clear water which ran down upon the alter, formed these words, Grace and Mercy. I understood that it was the Mystery of the Most Holy Trinity, which was shown to me, and I received lights about this mystery which I am not permitted to reveal. Our Lady then said to me: The moment has come in which God asks the Holy Father, in union with the Bishops of the world, to make the consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart, promising to save it by this means. There are so many souls whom the Justice of God condemns for sins committed against me, that I have come to ask reparation: sacrifice yourself for this intention and pray. I gave an account of this to the confessor, who ordered me to write down what Our Lady wanted done. Later, in an intimate communication, Our Lord complained to me saying: They did not wish to heed my request. Like the King of France, they will repent and do it, but it will be late. Russia will have already spread her errors throughout the world, provoking wars, and persecutions of the Church, the Holy Father will have much to suffer.

    1. I remember this story, Arthur. So generous is God with Our Lady’s intercession that when we have been late, again and again, in responding to Our Lady and Our Lord’s requests, they have continued to press on with more apparitions and more exhortations to rouse us to action. Blessed be God in His Plan as it continues to unfold before us and with us as we press on, making reparation and praying for the conversion and salvation of souls.

  23. Relative to Pope Jonh Paul’s knowing what was ahead, I recall reading his book “Rise Let Us Be on Our Way” (2002), which was more a series of reflections on his life and ministry. At the end of the introduction, he inserted, almost out of the blue the words of Jesus from Mark 14;42: “Rise, let us be going. See! My betrayer is near”. I was chilled by it, because I saw clearly that John Paul did KNOW that betrayal and the storm lay ahead for the Church. He had done his level best to prepare us, as Charlie said.

    1. Let us get to the heart of the matter. The Church is not the priests, the bishops or even the pope himself and my faith does not depend on any of them, their goodness or lack thereof and therefore my faith depends primarily on what the Church itself is. I was born a Catholic, but I remain a Catholic because the Catholic Church has the fullness of the teachings of Christ, the fullness of the scriptures, and the fullness of the sacraments instituted by Christ to aid us in attaining our salvation, the primary purpose of our very creation and existence.

I let them know that my wife is after me to be a weekly member for couples for Christ and my Faith is deep but am an introvert and shy. To be honest I’m no subject expert but I honest felt he was genuine. It’s really long but he does cover the following

The current status of the crisis.
    The hierarchical response and turmoil.
    The response of Paradisus Dei.
    The options for faithful Catholics.

It’s quite long but I felt he covered it quite well. we need to accept what happened and discuss ways to support Christ church to make her what God wants her to be via the intercession of Mary. Satan’s time is up and we must rebuild rather than sulking.

I dont intend for you to publish it but whenever you have the time check it out.

    God Bless.

    1. I would guess it means marriages that don’t meet the requirements for validity by the church, the 3 requirements being;
1)the man and woman to be married are free of impediments
2)they freely consent to the marriage
3)the form of the marriage is recognized by the church
      To fully understand what these 3 requirements mean, you are better to look at canon law but there are some helpful websites that give you a good general idea;
      http://www.catholicweddinghelp.com/questions/rules-requirements.htm

Of course this doesn’t define “bad marriage”, however there are many marriages today that don’t fulfill these requirements.

  28. Thanks to Archbishop Chaput for sharing a theologians analysis of serious difficulties of the proposed content of the upcoming synod. (Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap., is the archbishop of Philadelphia and a member of the Synod of Bishops’ permanent council. His council term will conclude in October.)

    Archbishop Chaput writes…
Over the past several months, I’ve received scores of emails and letters from laypeople, clergy, theologians, and other scholars, young and old, with their thoughts regarding the October synod of bishops in Rome focused on young people. Nearly all note the importance of the subject matter. Nearly all praise the synod’s intent. And nearly all raise concerns of one sort or another about the synod’s timing and possible content. The critique below, received from a respected North American theologian, is one person’s analysis; others may disagree. But it is substantive enough to warrant much wider consideration and discussion as bishop-delegates prepare to engage the synod’s theme. Thus, I offer it here:

Principal theological difficulties in the Instrumentum Laboris (IL) for the 2018 synod:

    I. Naturalism

The IL displays a pervasive focus on socio-cultural elements, to the exclusion of deeper religious and moral issues. Though the document expresses the desire to “re-read” “concrete realities” “in the light of the faith and the experience of the Church (§4),” the IL regrettably fails to do so. Specific examples:

§52. After a discussion of the contemporary instrumentalized conception of the body and its effects of “early sexual activity, multiple sexual partners, digital pornography, exhibiting bodies online and sexual tourism,” the document laments only its “disfiguring the beauty and depth of affective and sex life.” No mention is made about the disfigurement of the soul, its consequent spiritual blindness, and impact on the reception of the gospel by the one so wounded.
§144. There is much discussion about what young people want; little about how these wants must be transformed by grace in a life that conforms to God’s will for their lives. After pages of analysis of their material conditions, the IL offers no guidance on how these material concerns might be elevated and oriented toward their supernatural end. Though the IL does offer some criticism of exclusively materialistic/utilitarian goals (§147), the majority of the document painstakingly catalogues the varied socio-economic and cultural realities of young adults while offering no meaningful reflection on spiritual, existential, or moral concerns. The reader may easily conclude that the latter are of no importance to the Church. The IL rightfully notes that the Church must encourage youth “to abandon the constant search for small certainties (§145).” Nowhere, however, does it note that she must also enlarge this view with the great certainty that there is a God, that he loves them, and that he wills their eternal good.
This naturalism is also evidenced in the document’s preoccupation with the following considerations: globalization (§10); advocating for the Church’s role in creating “responsible citizens” rather than saints (§147) and preparing youth for their role in society (§135); secular goals for education (§149); promoting sustainability and other secular goals (§152-154); promoting “social and political engagement” as a “true vocation” (§156); encouragement of “networking” as a role of the Church.
The hope of the gospel is noticeably missing. In §166, in the context of a discussion of sickness and suffering, a disabled man is quoted: “you are never prepared enough to live with a disability: it prompts you to ask questions about your own life, and wonder about your finiteness.” These are existential questions for which the Church possesses the answers. The IL never responds to this quotation with a discussion of the Cross, redemptive suffering, providence, sin, or the Divine Love. The IL is similarly weak on the question of death in §171: suicide is described as merely “unfortunate,” and no attempt is made to correlate it to the failures of a materialistic ethos. This is also seen in the tepid treatment of addiction (§49-50).

II. An inadequate grasp of the Church’s spiritual authority

The IL upends the respective roles of the ecclesia docens and the ecclesia discens. The entire document is premised on the belief that the principal role of the magisterial Church is “listening.” Most problematic is §140: “The Church will have to opt for dialogue as her style and method, fostering an awareness of the existence of bonds and connections in a complex reality. . . . No vocation, especially within the Church, can be placed outside this outgoing dynamism of dialogue . . . . [emphasis added].” In other words, the Church does not possess the truth but must take its place alongside other voices. Those who have held the role of teacher and preacher in the Church must replace their authority with dialogue. (In this regard, see also §67-70).

The theological consequence of this error is the conflation of the baptismal and sacramental priesthood. From the foundation of the Church, by divine command, the ordained ministers of the Church have been invested with the task of teaching and preaching; from her foundation, the baptized faithful have been tasked with hearing and conforming to the preached Word. Moreover, the mandate of preaching is co-instituted by Our Lord with the ministerial priesthood itself (Cf. Mt 28:19-20). Were the Church to abandon her ministry of preaching, that is, were the roles of the teaching Church and the listening Church to be inverted, the hierarchy itself would be inverted, and the ministerial priesthood would collapse into the baptismal priesthood. In short, we would become Lutherans.
Apart from this serious ecclesiological problem, this approach presents a pastoral problem. It is common knowledge that adolescents from permissive households typically yearn for parents to care enough to set limits and give direction, even if they rebel against this direction. Similarly, the Church as mother and teacher cannot through negligence or cowardice forfeit this necessary role of setting limits and directing (Cf. §178). In this regard §171, which points to the motherhood of the Church, does not go far enough. It offers only a listening and accompanying role while eliminating that of teaching.

    III. A partial theological anthropology

Discussion of the human person in the IL fails to make any mention of the will. The human person is reduced in numerous places to “intellect and desire,” “reason and affectivity” (§147). The Church, however, teaches that man, created in the image of God, possesses an intellect and will, while sharing with the rest of the animal kingdom a body, with its affect. It is the will that is fundamentally directed toward the good. The theological consequence of this glaring omission is extraordinarily important, since the seat of the moral life resides in the will and not in the vicissitudes of the affect. Other examples include §114 and §118.

IV. A relativistic conception of vocation

Throughout the document the impression is given that vocation concerns the individual’s search for private meaning and truth. Examples include:

§129. What is meant by “personal form of holiness?” Or, one’s “own truth?” This is relativism. While the Church certainly proposes the personal appropriation of truth and holiness, Scripture is very clear that God, the First Truth, is One; the devil is legion.
§139 gives the impression that the Church cannot propose the (singular) truth to people and that they must decide for themselves. The role of the Church consists only in accompaniment. This false humility risks diminishing the legitimate contributions that the Church can and ought to make.
§157. Why should the Church be about “supporting pathways to change lifestyles?” This in conjunction with exhortations for youth to take responsibility for their own lives (§62) and to construct meaning for themselves (§7, §68-69) gives the impression that absolute truth is not found in God.

    V. An impoverished understanding of Christian joy

Christian spirituality and the moral life are reduced to the affective dimension, clearest in §130, evidenced by a sentimentalist conception of “joy.” Joy seems to be a purely affective state, a happy emotion, sometimes grounded in the body or human love (§76), sometimes in social engagement (§90). Despite its constant reference to “joy,” nowhere does the IL describe it as the fruit of the theological virtue of charity. Nor is charity characterized as the proper ordering of love, putting God first and then ordering all other loves with reference to God.

The theological consequence of this is that the IL lacks any theology of the Cross. Christian joy is not antithetical to suffering, which is a necessary component of a cruciform life. The document gives the impression that the true Christian will be “happy” at all times, in the colloquial sense. It further implies the error that the spiritual life itself will always result in felt (affective) joy. The pastoral problem that results from this comes to the fore most clearly in §137: Is it the role of the Church to make youth “feel loved by him [God]” or to aid them in knowing they are loved regardless of how they might feel?

Besides the above considerations, there are other serious theological concerns in the IL, including: a false understanding of the conscience and its role in the moral life; a false dichotomy proposed between truth and freedom; false equivalence between dialogue with LGBT youth and ecumenical dialogue; and an insufficient treatment of the abuse scandal.

      1. First of all, HTTP, An instrumentum laboris (IL) (Latin for “working instrument”) is a type of Vatican official document used at a General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops. And that is the document for which the theologian provides analysis. I’ll simply list some key points, perhaps small chunks would be easier to digest… parentheses are mine:
*The IL displays a pervasive focus on socio-cultural elements, to the exclusion of deeper religious and moral issues.
*After the IL discusses sexual sin, the theologian points out that: No mention is made about the disfigurement of the soul, its consequent spiritual blindness, and impact on the reception of the gospel by the one so wounded.
*There is much discussion about what young people want; little about how these wants must be transformed by grace in a life that conforms to God’s will for their lives.
*The majority of the document painstakingly catalogues the varied socio-economic and cultural realities of young adults while offering no meaningful reflection on spiritual, existential, or moral concerns.
*Nowhere, however, does it (the IL document) note that she must (teach to) the certainty that there is a God, that he loves them, and that he wills their eternal good.
*The hope of the gospel is noticeably missing.
        * The IL never responds to this quotation ( about sickness and suffering) with a discussion of the Cross, redemptive suffering, providence, sin, or the Divine Love.
*The IL is similarly weak on the question of death in §171: suicide is described as merely “unfortunate,” and no attempt is made to correlate it to the failures of a materialistic ethos. This is also seen in the tepid treatment of addiction.
*The entire document is premised on the belief that the principal role of the magisterial Church is “listening.”
*In other words, the Church does not possess the truth but must take its place alongside other voices.
*Those who have held the role of teacher and preacher in the Church must replace their authority with dialogue.
        * From the foundation of the Church, by divine command, the ordained ministers of the Church have been invested with the task of teaching and preaching; from her foundation, the baptized faithful have been tasked with hearing and conforming to the preached Word.
*Moreover, the mandate of preaching is co-instituted by Our Lord with the ministerial priesthood itself (Cf. Mt 28:19-20).

*(Among additional problems are;) a false understanding of the conscience and its role in the moral life; a false dichotomy proposed between truth and freedom; false equivalence between dialogue with LGBT youth and ecumenical dialogue; and an insufficient treatment of the abuse scandal.

I’ll stop here HTTP. Hope this helped.

          1. Yes, Annie. Makes truth nice and relative(sarcasm)!!!
I shudder at all of the times I have relied on my “truth”. Ha. What a mess that is!
I believe that is part of why we are in the mess we are now. Instead of a properly formed conscience from Holy Mother church, people(me) believed my own truth. Awful deadly stuff-deadly for the soul.

        1. Very much so. Thank you for taking the time to chunk it so i could better understand.

Oh my word. Come Lord, save us from ourselves. It seems it would be better they don’t even meet with all of that going on. Are they not concerned with leading others astray? Lord, have mercy and please come quickly.

          1. HttP, it is difficult to avoid concluding that leading others astray is actually the goal. How else to explain sleights of hand such as “intellect and DESIRE” rather than “intellect and WILL”?

            Mercy, Lord.

        2. The Church is entering into a dialogue with modernism and that’s not ok. It’s evil. Instead of renewal, the Church keeps seeking evolution and it’s just not going to work. The Church is not a man-made, clever institution of self help for the masses, it’s not supposed to be so sophisticated in that way! The Bishops would do well to meditate on the Infant Jesus . . . the purity and simplicity of our faith. And then, have courage! All this talk about dialogue and having better listening skills . . . if this keeps up I kind of imagine parishes would start resembling something like public school elementary classrooms. Imagine the Church being plastered with giant, happy colored posters with clever acronyms to help us remember the “Seven Steps to Good Listening”, or “3 ways to Be Nice Today!!” . . . start replacing Jesus with sophistication. Yuck. Luckily, Jesus is not going to be pushed away, He is going to renew the Church and it’s going to come with a great deal of conflict and sacrifice. Sacrifice is and has always been the currency of renewal. And we’re in for a heck of a renewal . . .thank goodness Mary is on the case looking out for us, gathering and directing graces for us for the time to come. That’s the job of a mother. A mother plans ahead, packs all the stuff needed, organizes everything for the good of the entire family and prepares her kids with pep talks as needed. 🙂

        3. Holy Mother of God. And I do mean that as a cry in anguish. Thank you Jesus for Archbishop Chaput!
This IL is a complete departure from everything that is our faith. You know I’m feeling completely naive about what I thought was our church and what was actually planned for it.

          1. And, Joanne, as I awaken to considering the new Episcopalis Communio and its impact in light of what this North American theologian discovered about what’s being peddled at the Synod on Youth, I shudder. NOW I understand what just a sojourner meant in his comment made several days ago. Shudder-inducing as this is, Christ promised to protect His Church. In Him is all our hope as we pray and next right step.

        4. Thanks for the summary Beckita. The first thing that came to mind is “Ugh! We’re about to finish praying & fasting for the nations and now we’re going to have to start praying & fasting for the synod!” (Some of us won’t hardly cast a shadow by the end of October).
          This is very disconcerting.

    2. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Beckita (and Archbishop Chaput).

Over the years, I have noticed many kinds of attempts to water down Divine Revelation (and hence, Divine Law), often in clever ways that sound nice. I pray that enough bishops don’t fall for such attempts this time during the upcoming synod.

      Come, Holy Spirit . . . .

  29. I remember making the connection at the time that the consecration of the country of Rwanda to the Sacred Heart of Jesus occurred just after the apparitions there and just before the horrible genocide and tribal slaughter that made the rivers run red.
I remember rejoicing here at ASOH and sharing how i had witnessed Archbishop Chaput and all the Bishops of PA consecrate their dioceses to the Immaculate Heart of Mary last summer. That was, of course, before the scandal broke here in my Diocese of Harrisburg.
When that Mass of Consecration ended, I waited to greet the Archbishop. When he was walking out, he looked tired and drained but I quickly ran to him and gave him a postcard of Pope John Paul and a holy card of Divine Mercy that I had saved from my pilgrimage to Poland during the Extraordinary Year for Divine Mercy.
Chaput, like Pope St. John Paul, appears to be climbing that hill in a similar way that Charlie describes it in the 3rd secret of Fatima. It would seem that once a consecration is made, the cross quickly becomes manifest and holy men and women begin the ascent of their own Calvary.

There is much ugliness and hate in this storm. As I was driving home – talk about a cold-water wake-up! – there were two huge vultures devouring a carcass on the grass near the road. The prophecy of Akita looms large in my mind. I pray that God is merciful, that saints act heroically and that souls repent while there is time. I am grateful for all here who provide fresh and holy perspective and, by their everyday faithfulness, remind me of the beauty of grace and suffering borne in love. Truly A Sign of Hope.
Tonight I will turn my yearning eyes back to the stars and remember the joy of last Sept. 23rd. O Maria, Maris Stella, fac ut vivam in Deo, cum Deo, et pro Deo. O Mary, Star of the Sea, help me to live in God, with God and for God.

  30. Long have I loved the preaching of Fr. George Rutler with his brilliant, insightful style. With true wit he delivers a message that pierces the heart in this closing of this piece.

    The Great Emergency
    Fr. George W. Rutler

That every five hundred years the Church passes through a crisis is not a novel insight. It may be something of a contrived schematic, since there have been other crises as well, but each of those periods of crisis has influenced the Church to an extraordinary and radical degree: The Fall of the Roman Empire, the Great East-West Schism, and the Protestant Revolt.

These days there seems to be a “perfect storm” of events which add up to a fourth crisis, and the faithful must trust that “through toil and tribulation” the purging of corrupt elements will result in a stronger Catholic witness. Recently, Pope Francis told the press: “I will not say a word” referring to some of the most serious allegations of decadence in the Church, and he has long declined to respond to the dubia of four cardinals on the spiritual economy of marriage. Some have thought that such reticence is inconsistent with his dogmatic outspokenness on ambiguous matters such as climate change and capital punishment. Last New Year’s Day, he said: “I would once again like to raise my voice” about immigration, and on Palm Sunday he told young people: “You have it in you to shout” even if “older people and leaders, very often corrupt, keep quiet.” This is why there was an eagerness to hear him when in the course of these most tumultuous months, on the fourth day of World Prayer for the Care of Creation, he finally spoke—but it turned out to be a warning about plastic debris in the world’s waters.

On September 1, 2018, this successor of Gregory I, who saw Latin civilization crumbling, and Leo IX, who grieved at the loss of Constantinople, and Pius V, who pitied souls lost in the heretical northern lands, implored and lamented: “We cannot allow our seas and oceans to be littered by endless fields of floating plastic. Here, too, our active commitment is needed to confront this emergency.” The struggle against plastic litter must be fought “as if everything depended on us.”

It was a sobering moment for all who care for what the Holy Father called “the great waters and all they contain.” The poignancy of such pastoral solicitude inevitably brings to mind the historic document of the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People in 2007 which was entitled: “Guidelines for the Pastoral Care of the Road.” It marked precisely the one thousandth anniversary of the no less important peace treaty with the Vikings signed by King Aethelred the Unready. The world will long remember this pontifical document’s opening line: “Moving from place to place, and transporting goods using different means, have characterized human behavior since the beginning of history.” The guidelines also pointed out (n. 21) that “A vehicle is a means of transport…” and observed (n. 23), “Sometimes the prohibitions imposed by road signs may be perceived as restrictions on freedom.” Drawing on generations of pastoral wisdom, the instruction (n. 24) warned: “The fact that a driver’s personality is different from that of a pedestrian’s, should be taken into account” (n. 24) and cautioned against “rude gestures” (n. 27). From their own cultural experiences as Italians, the president of the Council, Renato Cardinal Martino, and the Council’s secretary, Agostino Marchetto, titular archbishop of Astigi, noted that “Cars tend to bring out the ‘primitive side’ of human beings, thereby producing rather unpleasant results” (n. 29).

More than a decade later, there is yet to be realized the Pontifical Council’s dream of “periodic celebrations of liturgies at major road points” (n 82). One hopes that the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation will produce more tangible results. There are cynics who would try to dismiss the plastic pollution emergency as though it were “not a massive, massive crisis.” However, the issue will not go away. You might say that the problem has been with us since plastic first appeared in 1284, as a naturally made compound of tortoise shell and horn. And, of course, 1284 was the year that the Lüneborg manuscript first recorded the tale of the Pied Piper of Hamelin, whom the former cardinal Theodore McCarrick, in a lecture in Villanova University in 2013, used as a metaphor for the charism of Pope Francis. He was unaware that 130 children were never seen again after the Piper led them into a cave.

The first man-made plastic, derived from cellulose, was exhibited at the Great International Exhibition in London in 1862, being the invention of Alexander Parkes. As a specimen of accidental synchronicity, it happened that during the installation of that marvel, the British Minister to Rome, Lord Odo Russell, assured an anxious Pope Pius IX that Queen Victoria would grant him asylum in England should he have to flee the Eternal City.

In the 1967 film The Graduate, Mr. McGuire tells Benjamin: “Plastics. There’s a great future in plastics. Think about it. Will you think about it?” That optimism, born of naïveté about Fallen Man’s abuse the oceans, is mocked by today’s emergency. Condemning the privatization of water resources, Pope Francis implied that a large burden of fault is to be blamed on Western capitalists. However, an awkward fact looms: a 2017 report of the “Ocean Conservancy” indicates that more plastic is dumped into the oceans by China, along with Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam, than by the entire rest of the world. Indeed, ninety per cent of all plastic in the seas and oceans are carried there by rivers in India, Africa, and mostly China. Nonetheless, the chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Social Science, Bishop Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo, has said: “Right now, those who are best implementing the social doctrine of the Church are the Chinese.” In China “the economy does not dominate politics, as in the United States” where President Trump is “manipulated” by global industrialists. Shortly before the Chinese government bulldozed yet another church and banned crucifixes, Sorondo declared that China was implementing Pope Francis’s encyclical letter Laudato Si better than many countries and “is assuming a moral leadership that others have abandoned.”

Plastic is not mentioned in Sacred Scripture, not even in the New American Bible. But we may safely assume that Jesus would have had difficulty walking on water if it had been filled with plastic trash. Saint Peter found a gold coin in the mouth of a fish but today he might very well find only a piece of styrofoam. When our Lord fed the five thousand and the four thousand, the leftovers filled twelve and seven kphinoi, or wicker baskets, respectively. These were huge crowds, especially if you add the number of women and children, and more so if 2+2 = 5. But the point is: these baskets were biodegradable, and it would never have occurred to the Master to use plastic trash bags even if such had existed. Eventually the baskets would have decayed and returned to the soil from whence they came. And that is how it should be. Even the parables can be updated for the present emergency: the Good Ecologist, having recycled ninety-nine plastic bottles, still goes out in search of the one polyurethane bottle that is lost.

On the other hand, our Lord does seem to have had a different concept of moral emergencies, to wit: “Hear me, all of you, and understand. Nothing that enters a man from outside can defile him; but the things that come out from within are what defile. From within men, from their hearts, come evil thoughts, unchastity, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, licentiousness, envy, blasphemy, arrogance, folly. All these evils come from within and they defile” (Mark 7: 15, 20-23). But for many facing the emergency of plastic refuse, that may be a matter for another day.

  31. I have been trying to understand the meaning and portent of the information which our friend Gary linked in his post way upstream today. This disturbing paragraph has been on my mind all day.

This was written by Fr. Michael X., J.C.L.

    http://www.churchmilitant.com/news/article/a-perfect-trojan-horse

That paragraph is followed by this:

“Called Episcopalis Communio (“Episcopal Communion”), the document is an act of papal legislation that, according to the official presentation of the text given by Cdl. Lorenzo Baldisseri, secretary general of the Synod of Bishops, is a “true and proper ‘refoundation’ of the synodal organism.”

If you are as confused as I am, welcome to the club.

Refoundation of the synodal organism. That sounds ominous but what does it mean?

“the Sept. 18 edition of the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano effectuated promulgation, bypassing the normal channel of promulgation in the Acta Apostolicae Sedis in order for new legislation to obtain immediate legal effect. In other words, the constitution was “rammed through” for the benefit of steering the outcome of the upcoming Synod on Youth.”

    Ramming? Steering? What the heck?

“In short, this means that the body that, for centuries, has, on a day-to-day basis, protected the Deposit of Faith and sacred canons from being too easily altered — the Roman Curia — is now officially emasculated in its ability to safeguard the Church from the innovations of revolutionaries. Not only has the Roman Curia been sidelined, but even worse, the normal body that has historically been called to discern, discuss and decide upon substantive change to the Church’s doctrinal texts and disciplinary norms — the ecumenical council made up of the Pope together with all of the world’s bishops — will be dramatically undercut in its prerogatives and unique voice as successors to the Apostles by far smaller and select groups of bishops and papal appointees.”

Emasculation? Undercut prerogatives? Revolutionaries? Favored select group of bishops AND PAPAL APPOINTEES?

Can we all say Special Super Delegates to the Democrat National Convention?

“The singular novelty of Episcopalis Communio is its ability to effectuate substantive and lasting change almost overnight to the ordinary life of the Church.”

Getting uncomfortable with this? Me too. Combine this with emasculation, ramming, steering and the stuffing of Synods with papal appointees of a certain persuasion with voting rights and don’t we have a problem here?

“No longer will there be need for any private trial balloons and stealth papal rescripts: the injection of heresy into the lifeblood of the Church is now able to be achieved by heteropraxes approved by the Synod and then the Pope that upon his fiat will form part of the “ordinary Magisterium of the Successor of Peter.”

Are you sensing something like a Deep State Coup D’Etat inside the Vatican? Led by the initiative of Pope Francis! Why would the Pope deliberately “undercut” his traditional historic authority on doctrinal matters? To a select group of Bishops and PAPAL APPOINTEES who are engaging in ramming and steering the occasional Synod of Bishops to introduce “heteropraxes” (whatever the heck that means) as official Church Magisterium.

I dunno but I don’t like the sounds of this.

“No longer is one dealing with change in disciplinary norms being raised to the level of “authentic” Magisterium, which technically can mean only non-infallible teaching. Now, the ante terrifyingly has been upped so that changes to discipline being approved by a mere synod of select papal appointees will become part and parcel of the “ordinary magisterium of the Successor of Peter” — constituting officially and potentially infallible teaching.

Episcopalis Communio, rather than increasing communion among the bishops in the one true Faith, may well lead to a most efficient and almost overnight outlawing of any bishop or lay faithful who would dare to question the propriety of disciplinary norms issued by a future synod as a dissenter if not heretic and schismatic — a perfect Trojan Horse.”

Overnight outlawing of any bishop or LAY FAITHFUL who would dare question? Heretic? Schismatic?
Does that incur excommunication if you don’t like what the Pope and his Papal Appointee Special Delegates and a select group of Bishops ram through an emasculated group of Bishops in Synod who are forced to rubber stamp a lot of rubbish? And the next day it appears in the Catechism of the Church enshrined as Canon Law and newly minted Magisterium of the Church?

    Whoa!

Can somebody please tell me I am totally confused and that nobody is trying to steal the Church right out from under us by clever, not to say brilliant, changes to parliamentary procedure putting more and more power into the hands of a few perhaps corrupt Bishops and who knows how many Papal Appointees selected out of multitude of lay experts selected for their “expertise” on matters being considered by a Synod? Is it just my heart that is going pitty pat over this change to the way the Magisterium is now subject to “refoundation” and “overnight” depending on the whims of papal appointees from who knows where?

I am not getting a good feeling about this. Maybe Pope Francis can explain to us why this is all good.

    1. I’m reading things in the same vein Ed. Let’s take heart. We are still in the 54 day Novena and I am sorry to admit that I have not been as faithful to it as I have desired but that does not diminish my hope. Blessed Mother acted almost immediately this time last year during a similar effort and I can sense her hand directing all the events of our time. Let us keep praying and be as trusting as little children that Jesus singles out in the Gospel of today. Let us love Him and be full of praise even amid the anguish and frustration we experience, just as Jesus did in the over-turning of the trading tables in the Temple. He went forward to the Cross and the Resurrection – we can too. It will be okay. Soon enough we will all come out the other side and we will find that our antagonists are together with us in praise and thanksgiving. Let’s stick together through these difficult times while we have the internet – if and when we lose it we will take solace in our tiny little Rosary Beads (and Scapular) – such a simple but highly effective instrument.

      1. Wow and wow! http://rosarytotheinterior.com/733-2/ Luke 24:32 comes to mind when I read this. “Did not our hearts burn within us when he spoke to us on the road to Emmaus, and opened the scriptures to us.” I am speechless – so many things are calmly and charitably explained here that draw together all of our concerns, anguish, puzzles and feelings of betrayal into a work that gives a realistic perspective or insight into the merciful and ingenious plan of God for you, me, the Church and the world in these tempestuous times – just hang tight and keep watch!

        1. Wow and wow and wow! I second your motion. Wow! indeed.

I don’t have a lot of time to reply at this moment. And there is so much in your post and this link to think about.

The question I have been asking myself the last week or so is this:

Is Pope Francis the last Pope?

As all this turmoil in the world and in the Church in particular is dovetailing together, combined with the Pope’s words and actions I am beginning to FEAR that the answer to this question may be yes.

The other day Charlie brought up the subject of Fatima and the various interpretations of the meaning of the 3rd secret. One of the interpretations linked to — I think it was to Fr Scanlon — was that the Bishop in White being struck down by soldiers shooting guns and arrows refers not to an individual Pope but to the Papacy itself.

          Gets you thinking doesn’t it?

““And now you know what withholdeth [the coming of the Antichrist], that he may be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity already worketh; only that he who now holdeth, do hold, until he be taken out of the way”(2 Thess 2:6-7).”

The Pope is referred to as “he who holdeth” Satan and the AntiChrist back in your link above. Makes sense to me.

Now we are seeing in this apparently unstoppable effort led by Francis of the “refoundation of the synodal organism” an effort to emasculate the good bishops and THE GOOD Popes of the future. To leave them with a PROCEDURE for althering the Magisterium through rogue Synods controlled by corrupt Bishops and LAY PAPAL APPOINTEES. Revision of Canon Law. Revision of Church Doctrine. UNSTOPPABLE.

In a sense it has the feeling of a vacating of the Papacy. Of diminishing and finally eradicating it. Of raising a lavender mafia of hierarchy to a power that can be maintained indefinitely by self promotion of seduced acolytes to a kind of familial succession of the priesthood and the episcopacy from generation to generation.

We see how this kind of corruption works in our own Government here in the U.S. Friends get promoted. Ideologues get entrenched in Civl Service jobs where they CANNOT be fired. A Deep State of corruption. As we saw with our previous President the “perfect storm” of corruption and its consequence on society comes about when a corrupt Head of the Government is allied with a corrupt Hierarchy of Government officials. All conspiring to perpetuate themselves and their ideology and their power from one election cycle to the next.

IMO, we are seeing almost a mirror image of how that process of corruption plays out in the Church.

Is Pope Francis the last Pope? Is he wearing a suicide vest to ensure that no future Pope can effectively lead the Church as the Vicar of Christ? Did he just pull the trigger with this “refoundation of the synodal organism”? Sacrificing himself and the papacy in the interest of ….. what?

          1. Karen and Ed, when I see something such as this interpretation of what is happening and where we are possibly headed, I like to know with what knowledge and authority the author is speaking. While we’re all called to discern carefully, it’s also true that someone’s personal opinion and/or preconceived ideas applied to discernment can take people way off track from where we’re actually headed in God’s Plan in this Storm. So, I clicked the “about” tab and read that this particular site began with a “group of lay people deeply concerned about the state of the Church.” Fair enough but who ARE these lay people and, especially, what sort of knowledge base of theology and the prophecies of these times do they have? Do they have spiritual direction to guard and guide them as they discern? Are they cherry picking quotes out of context to prove their predetermined theory?

Unable to answer these questions, I put one of the Pope Benedict quotes in a search bar and was taken to the site of a James Larson where I found that the Rosary meditation had been adapted from a previously written article by Mr. Larson. Still wanting to understand from what background he writes, I searched further and found he has written a book, War Against the Papacy, found here. The two reviews speak opposing assessments and I wonder which is correct without reading his book.

As I searched a little further I found someone stating that James Larson has written that Pope Benedict XVI wrote material heresies. No way is this true! This is a major red flag to me that Larson may be well-intended but is certainly in deep error concerning his assessment of Pope Benedict’s writings. I read the Pope Benedict quote Larson used from Faith and the Future p.74-75 and want to know from what context this quote comes?! It lacks full meaning without the context. I asked Father to read the quote attributed to Pope Benedict spoken on the occasion of Pope Benedict’s 65th priestly anniversary. Father agrees with me that Larson inaccurately ascribes a meaning to Pope Benedict’s words which is not at all true. Rather, it was simply a cordial greeting by Pope Benedict. Nothing more.

The additional reasons I perceive that Larson is an unreliable source in discerning these times are rooted in the prophecies and messages of our times, some fully approved by the Church, others without a formal decision by the Church. Here are some of them:
*The messages from Our Lady in this Age of Mary have spoken to how we’re living in these “end times” and they are coming to a close in these final stages of the Storm. They will be over when, “in the end,” Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart will triumph and the Rescue will be complete.
            * Charlie has conveyed that he does not believe the person, the Antichirst, will emerge at this time but that the spirit of antichrist is what we are contending. Pope Benedict has spoken to this as well, as mentioned here. As summarized in this article:
As Cardinal Ratzinger recently pointed out (in the context of the message of Fátima), we are not at the end of the world. In fact, the Second Coming (understood as the physical return of Christ) cannot occur until the full number of the Gentiles are converted, followed by “all Israel.”

Approved Catholic mystics (Venerables, Blessed and Saints, approved apparitions) throw considerable light on this order, by prophesying a minor apostasy and tribulation toward the end of the world, after which will occur the reunion of Christians. Only later will the entire world fall away from Christ (the great apostasy) and the personal Antichrist arise and the Tribulation of the End occur.

Although this is not Catholic doctrine, arising as it does from private revelation, it conforms to what is occurring in our time, especially in light of Our Lady of Fátima’s promise of an “Era of Peace.” This “Triumph of the Immaculate Heart” (other saints have spoken of a social reign of Jesus Christ when Jesus will reign in the hearts of men) would seem to occur prior to the rise of the Antichrist. The optimism of the Pope for the “New Evangelization” and a “Civilization of Love” in the Third Millennium of Christianity fits here, as well. This would place us, therefore, in the period just before the events spoken of in the Catechism, that is, on the verge of the evangelization of the entire world. Other interpretations are possible, but none seem to fit the facts as well, especially when approved mystics are studied, instead of merely alleged ones.

*There are several different eschatological interpretations about these times – and it takes great depth and breadth of cross-disciplinary studies to do it well. Here is one I have taken seriously, for the author has utilized the writings of Church Father, Doctors and Mystics of the 20th century to make his assertions. Charlie’s friend has written another book found here.

*In all the apparitions and messages I’ve studied and the Marian shrines I’ve visited, never EVER have I read or heard that the papacy will disappear. The Church WILL be renewed. She WILL rise in splendor again. She WILL be what Christ intended her to be and Christ Who is the same yesterday, today and forever will be with us til the end of time as we know it on earth and the dictum: “You are Peter and upon this rock I will build my Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against her” will be true til the end of time.

And I will ask Charlie to weigh in on this topic because it’s an important one. Thank you both, Karen and Ed, for bringing this to the fore.

            1. Thank you Beckita for burrowing into the background of that article. Larson’s article is long and I need to go through it a few more times. I did find it unusual that the name of the author was not present – I racked my memory to see if I could recognise the style. In regards to the end of your reply I would say that it is acceptable to consider that either the Church and or the Papacy will APPEAR to be destroyed. Many times in the MMP Blue Book Blessed Mother says that just when Satan believes he has won, then will come Her Triumph and that would equate to our current situation. The majority of endtime interpretations I have read say that antichrist is not expected until after the Era of Peace. It is morning here now, I wonder what perspective can be arrived at after I go through your links given above. Thank you for your steadying influence😊!

              1. You are on target, Karen. It will just seem that the evil one has bested God in this “greatest historical confrontation humanity has ever experienced” said one of our site’s patrons, Pope St. John Paul II. This seeming victory of the evil one has been expressed by Charlie as the time when we rely on the TNRS message so that we be heartened with Hope, ourselves and those around us, to hang tough til we reach the Shores of complete Rescue, the Triumph of our Mother’s Immaculate Heart. I think, too, that we are living a pattern in God’s Ways. So often He allows a foreshadowing of a person, an event or a theme. We know the Old Testament is replete with such as this, e.g in the prominent holy women who prefigured Our Lady: https://udayton.edu/imri/mary/o/old-testament-types-of-mary.php From Medjugorje, Our Mother has said we’re living the Book of Revelation – Charlie has written of this as well. So while we live these end of times, Revelation is not being completely fulfilled, but foreshadowing its fulfillment in the very fashion that God’s Plan dictates. I think, too, that we’re foreshadowing our purgatory and entrance into Heaven in the sense that we MUST be purified, scoured, cleansed and prepared before we enter the Period of Peace promised by Our Lady at Fatima.

John Paul II’s prophetic words in an address given during the 1976 Eucharistic Congress in Philadelphia for the bicentennial celebration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, bring me great comfort in these days:
                – We are now standing in the face of the greatest historical confrontation humanity has ever experienced. I do not think that the wide circle of the American Society, or the whole wide circle of the Christian Community realize this fully. We are now facing the final confrontation between the Church and the anti-church, between the gospel and the anti-gospel, between Christ and the Antichrist. The confrontation lies within the plans of Divine Providence. It is, therefore, in God’s Plan, and it must be a trial which the Church must take up, and face courageously.

            2. Thanks for the note of caution re: the future of the Papacy. Well taken and prudent advice to stay calm.

Fatima aside though I am still worried about this change to the way that future Synods are going to be managed and directed and the shift of authority seemingly associated with this change.

The coming Synod in Ireland on Youth might shed some further light on all this. What the ‘refounded synodal organism” produces for our children.

I don’t think we have heard the last of all this.

              1. We probably have not heard the last of it, Ed. But Christ’s Promise stands: the gates of hell shall not prevail. They will not. And Oh! How those gates are rattling at fever pitch. Have you noticed how often He is an eleventh hour God when He throws the buoy to our shipwrecked selves? I am wondering with wonder just how He’ll lead us through this latest assault comprised of the theological failure on the part of those who have prepared for next month’s synod. Praying for the hardened clerics and laity who stubbornly resist repenting and reforming their ways. Someone’s prayers saved me, I am sure of it. Just maybe it was many someones. 🙂

I’ve always read this as a defensive move on our part, but it is not so. If we, or dare I say, when we Christians actively combat evil, the gates of hell shall not prevail.

            3. I’ll put a post up in the morning that covers this. I encourage people not to go chasing after strange ideas that just don’t comport with a steady Gospel. This is NOT the last Pope…we are NOT going to have some weird departure from the promises of Christ, even if we have some amazing things come to pass. I ask people to soberly contemplate Thessalonians 2 and Galatians 1:6-10. Then contemplate that Jesus established Peter as the rock on which His Church would be built and then promised He would be with His Church until the end of the age.

It is good to contemplate that things might be different than we expect – but it is better to keep our imaginations bounded by the promises of Christ – and some of this is getting far afield.

I am so thankful for all of you who can figure this stuff out. It is way above my pay grade-I am just a foot soldier-I am going to keep my head down and just keep praying the rosary. I remember reading the story about how the rosary was given to the peasants because they couldn’t read. Man, I am feeling very much like a peasant.
With the Trojan horse stuff, the history of the church-pope dying before a heresy can be promoted and now the pope saying(in jest-but still) that he is the devil compared to Pope St. John Paul. I’m sorry but that is just not something to be joked about. To me that is horrifying.

        3. Consider me a Rosary-praying peasant along with you, HttP. As horrifying is the news is these days, there have been some very heartening developments in my diocese. On Saturday, we had our Diocesan Assembly; and it was incredible! It started at 9:00 am with a Eucharistic procession of nearly 4 miles. There were 5,000 people in the procession. I was floored by how many children, teens, and young adults took part. I was also floored by other remarkable people who participated: three blind people who were being led by others; an older lady with a walker (it had wheels on the bottom); an elderly lady with a 4-footed cane that walked a bunch of it before having to board one of the golf carts driven by a volunteer; and the 92-year-old lady who was walking along, holding onto her daughter’s arm, and refusing the use of a golf cart. She wanted to complete it herself… and when I saw her about 3 miles in, she was walking faster than I was.

Once we all got to the area, Bishop Boyea was the first speaker. His comments were brief, but he mentioned the sex abuse crisis that the Church is facing. He said the we should make reparation, and he led by example when he walked over to the altar in the middle of the stage and then prostrated himself before Jesus in the monstrance.

Here’s a recap, with tons of pictures, from our diocese’s website:

Another great event is a Forty Hours being held at one of our local parishes. It started last night at 7:00 pm. The front of the program says, “Forty Hours of Eucharistic Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in Reparation for Sins Committed by Priests and Bishops against the People of God.” The Forty Hours was the idea of the parish’s pastor. When He presented the original mock-up of the program to our bishop, the bishop requested that “Bishops” be added (it had originally only mentioned sins committed by priests). My family was blessed to attend the opening of the devotion last night; and I was blessed to be able to return this morning when Little Miss Sleep-Is-For-Losers decided to get up at 5:45. It was so encouraging to see people coming and going, and offering up to Our Lord their time and their prayers.

And if I could make a suggestion of a recipe you might like to try, it’s the tomato sauce on p. 84. Although the recipe says to crush the tomatoes, we always just pureed them; and we used a food-grade 5-gallon bucket because we didn’t have a crock. And because the tomatoes were pureed rather than crushed, we didn’t have to strain them before putting the sauce in the jars. Oh… and when it says to top off each jar with 3/4 inch of olive oil, we never used that much; we usually used a quarter inch, and the jars of sauce would still keep in the cool basement for a couple years or more. 🙂

He turned out to be brilliant and was the most well behaved kid a parent could want, but he has all the signs of Aspergers syndrome. We did not recognize this until he was an adult. 33. Hello Beckita,
The other day I was wondering what Our Lady had to say about homosexuality to Fr. Gobbi. So I went to: http://www.mmp-usa.net/concordance/#h
We know that Fr. Gobbi travelled all over the world and received messages in many cities. It probably is no coincidence that one of the cities where Our Lady condemned homosexuality was none other than in Pennsylvania (message #437 Nov. 15, 1990 in Malvern, Pa.)!

  35. Not sure if this has been covered in the comments, but I have to say that this China “deal” is another stick in the eye to the faithful. My heart goes out to Cardinal Zen and all the faithful clergy who have been run underground over the years. Evidently, a government can now choose Bishops. President Trump could have some fun with that …
Here is a link to a Lifesite article if you haven’t seen it already. I’m also pretty sure that McCarrick worked on this “deal” for years. It all seems to be part of the same movement. Sad.

    Sadly: https://dwightlongenecker.com/the-curious-case-of-fr-kalchik/

The Curious Case of Fr Kalchik
    Fr. Dwight Longenecker

For those who are watching the meltdown of liberal American Catholicism, the drama has a new episode every day. Just when you thought it couldn’t get more frightening and bizarre…

It does, and Chicago seems to be one of the flash points. You thought two Chicago priests caught having oral sex in Florida in broad daylight was bad? Then you learn about the famous Cardinal Bernardin and the seamy death of Fr. Montalbano and the dark side of Casa Jesus and you see just how deep the gay mafia runs in Chicago.

Now we learn about Cardinal Cupich’s grotesque handling of the case of Fr Paul Kalchik.

Church Militant has the story here, but I’ll give you the short version:

Fr Kalchik is himself the victim of sexual abuse. He was raped as a boy and then as a young man of 19 he was attacked by a gay priest.

Fr Kalchik was the pastor of the parish of the Resurrection in Chicago. This parish was established by Cardinal Bernardin as the “gay friendly” parish in Chicago. At the dedication a big rainbow banner infused with a cross decorated the sanctuary. By Fr Kalchik’s time the banner had been removed, but parishioners angry with the gay sex abuse scandal in the church decided to burn the banner in a public ceremony on church grounds. Fr Kalchik was warned by Cardinal Cupich not to proceed with the ceremony. Fr Kalchik held back, but the people went ahead with the banner burning.

Cardinal Cupich ordered Kalchik to leave. He refused. Then Cardinal Cupich sends two of his senior clergy to tell the dissident priest to pack his bags because he needs to go to a notorious pastoral center for a psychiatric evaluation. They hint at his death. They pressure him to leave and threaten police action to remove him from the rectory. So Fr Kalchick does pack his bags, but he slips out the back door and disappears.

    Phew!

OK. This is the version that is being presented, and its pretty dramatic. In fact, it would make a great movie. But let’s stop and draw a breath.

First of all, Church Militant are notoriously inflammatory. They’re sensationalist and it is right to take what they say with a pinch of salt. We don’t know all the background. We don’t know all the facts and we should remember that most situations are far more complicated than they appear in news reports. There is always another side to the story. It is possible that there is a long history of rebellious behavior from Fr Kalchik, and it is possible that he has a history of emotional or psychiatric issues. It is possible that the parish have been fomenting rebellion and division for some time. There is a lot we do not know.

However, Fr Kalchik was smart, when the two representatives from the diocese turned up on his doorstep, to insist that his parishioners should be present for the meeting. If this happened, then their testimony as recorded by Michael Voris, weighs pretty heavily–even if they are biased in favor of their pastor.

But let’s step back from the sensational and try to take the very best possible view of this incident. Let’s give Cardinal Cupich and the Chicago diocesan authorities every possible benefit of the doubt. Let’s assume the Fr Kalchik does have a history of unstable behavior. Let’s assume for the sake of argument that he is some sort of wild eyed conservative homophobic radical who needs taming. Let’s also assume that Cardinal Cupich is a good and caring pastor for his clergy. Let’s assume what he did was a last resort after a long process of dialogue and listening. Let’s assume that Michael Voris is throwing gas on the fire, that the parishioners are exaggerating the foul nature of the event and that Fr Kalchik is not on the lam, but has simply agreed to leave and take a vacation while things blow over.

Even if we give it the best possible gloss this is still an unbelievably monstrous way for Cardinal Cupich to behave. Here’s why:

1.Fr Kalchik is a victim of homosexual abuse. Raped as a child and assaulted by a priest as a young man, it is understandable that he feels traumatized by gay behavior. As a priest it is understandable that he finds a gay mafia in his diocese to be hugely offensive and threatening. Was there appropriate pastoral care for this victim of clergy gay sex abuse? I thought we were all about caring for the victims?
    2. Let’s assume that Fr Kalchik has emotional and psychiatric issues. Is this how you administer proper pastoral care for a vulnerable priest? Call the cops?
    3. Fr Kalchik has a right to dissent from church authority if that authority contradicts church teachings. Consider how New Ways Ministry–which has been formally condemned by the highest church authority– is treated compared to Fr Kalchik. New Ways Ministry and Fr Martin SJ are feted and supported for their open dissent, but Fr Kalchik does not have the right to express his views?
    4. The two priests Cardinal Cupich sent to punish Fr Kalchik both have links to the Chicago gay mafia. If he knew Fr Kalchik’s history of being a victim of gay sex abuse Cardinal Cupich sends two priests who have themselves been under a cloud to deal with him? How dumb is that?
    5. What a PR fiasco! Was there no awareness that this whole affair would hit the headlines? Did the Cardinal really threaten to bring in the police to evict Fr Kalchik? It would seem that Cardinal Cupich has learned absolutely nothing about public relations after his crazy TV interview saying homosexual abuse was no big deal and the pope has other more important things to deal with like the environment and plastic water bottles. The level of incompetence in the handling of this from a public relations point of view is mind boggling.
    6. Is Cardinal Cupich so completely unaware that he and the rest of the red robes are perceived as sixteenth century prelates–living in their palaces, jet setting off to Rome and mouthing pious words about immigrants and climate change while in fact an increasing number of the faithful regard them as corrupt, devious, Machiavellian Renaissance cardinals desperate to defend themselves and deflect all blame no matter what? Did he think threatening a faithful priest would help?
    7. We’re all about building bridges and listening aren’t we? So you build bridges and listen by threatening police action and eviction?
    8. The threat of police action was bad enough, but what about the threat of “removal to a pastoral center for psychiatric evaluation”? This is the stuff of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and the re-education camps of the Gulag. Is this what will happen to anyone who dissents from the gay agenda? That’s what it feels like.
    9. This disaster contributes to the impression that the whole hierarchy from the Pope downward are intent on continuing to cover for gay sex abusers, and they will take every measure possible to shut down dissent from their disastrous decisions.
    10. Will we see a humble apology from Cardinal Cupich to Fr Kalchik and his people? Will we see an attempt at reconciliation and repentance? Don’t bet on it.

The only possible bright side of this horrible affair is that Cardinal Cupich and the rest of his liberal cronies are being revealed for what they really are.

This is the face of their “mercy”.

So we have a priest who has been traumatized by gay sex abuse and who dissents from being steamrollered by the rainbow brigade?

Fire him. Kick him out. Send him to the looney bin. Write him off. Throw him under the bus. Call the police.

  37. Quote from Jennifer Hartline …

And that’s precisely what we’ve got here in America. The delusion is so hypnotic and addictive that nothing must be permitted to question it or come against it. There must be sexual pleasure without price. Nothing matters more than sexual gratification. The god of the groin is perpetually unsatisfied and greedy.

So the modern sophisticated pagans want to continue exposing the unwanted child to birds of prey on a rock in the midday sun. The allegiance they require to abortion-on-demand is no different and no better. Except that today they remove those lucrative brains and organs first. (I guess our ancestors didn’t know there was money to be made from baby body parts.)

After 45 years of this demonic delusion, with millions of babies picked apart by vultures in lab coats, along comes the possibility that finally the most sickening injustice of all time may be undone, and the pelvic Left is twelve different kinds of hysterical.

They don’t hate Brett Kavanaugh because of anything he may have done over thirty years ago. Any transgression can be forgiven if fervent devotion to abortion is manifest.

They hate Kavanaugh because they love abortion and he does not. Hell hath no fury like “women’s rights”

  38. A snippet from Natural News link below: Kavanaugh accuser,…, turns out to have ties to an abortion pill pharmaceutical company called Corcept Therapeutics. This discovery brings to light an obvious conflict of interest in B.’s story, revealing that she works for a pharmaceutical company that manufacturers an abortion pill drug, whose profits could be strongly impacted by future Supreme Court decisions on abortion rights.
Corcept Therapeutics (Corcept.com) manufacturers and markets an abortion pill drug called mifepristone, and C.F. is a co-author of at least eight published scientific papers produced by the pharmaceutical giant to promote its pills. You can see B.’s name listed on several publications at ….; Remainder of article can be found here:

  39. There seems to be a very interesting parallel “going-on” in the Church Scandals and USA Political Escapades ….. and in many cases it’s the very same Usual Suspects!
I’m sure that others here have thought or opined my thinking that the most rabid-n-hysterical, The Usual Suspects, Trump & Conservative Christian Haters are doing their thing for other reasons besides Partisan Politics and Church affairs!? Remember Billary’s quote from before Election 16 about a Trump win? The Billary quote: “If that ***g B-word Trump wins, we all hang from nooses.” has been debunked by Leftists but does anyone here believe that “The Quote” reflects exactly what was going through the minds of Billary/Supporters and suspect Church Prelates/their “Special Friends”? Have you noticed that the most vitriolic Trump Hating Democrats come from Deep Blue States like Illinois or Deep Blue Urban Paradises in Red States …. all of whom hold, supposedly, Congressional “Safe-Seats”? …. Deep Blue States where the Pervert Scandals are most egregious too!! Hating Trump and the MAGA Movement (Faithful Awaken Movement) is probably a distant second to their self preservation instincts. Do you believe that ANY of these Safe-Seat Democrats or their close family, friends and “team associates” ….. or Safe-Seat Bishoprics and their staffs ….. could undergo the political/legal “anal exam” that Trump and his Deplorables/Societal Dregs must undergo?
    Get to the Point, CrewDog!!
I believe that these Democrats and Clerics are afraid of a serious legal “Anal Exam” if the DOJ/FBI/Intel Alphabet are cleansed …. Please God!! …. thus …. are they already setting up a legal defense, with Democrat Shyster Lawyers, who will claim that The Law is NOT going after them for righteous criminal charges but for political reasons. They will garb themselves in the bloody robes of Patriot Martyrs-n-Jesus and claim that their only crime is exercising their Rights under the Constitution/Bill of Rights and it’s All-About Political Persecution!!! …. notwithstanding The Left’s decades long undermining of the above …. except for The 5th Amendment .. of course.
Speaking of Deep Blue States & Democrat Safe-Seats ….. I’m still wondering why, presumably, Safe-Seat ChiTown Illinois Democrat Rep. Luis Gutierrez unexpectedly dropped out of Election 18 at the dawning of the #METOO Backfire?? HullyGee!! I wonder if Luis and Blase are big buddies? ….. this #METOO Business has in fact mostly backfired on The Usual Suspects taking-out, still, Liberal Hollywood-n-“Media” Types and driving underground many others whilst Trump is still standing. If Billary had been elected there would be NO #METOO Movement for obvious reasons ….. and the Church Pervert Scandal Cover-Up Movement is fixin’ to Back-Fire Bigly too …. Praise God!!!

GOD SAVE THE REPUBLIC & ALL HERE!!

    1. Thanks Becks! These pictures are beautiful. I recognize a few faces, notably of my fellow 4th degree Sir Knights of Columbus. I shall print a few and pass the website on. The pics display the grandeur of the Shrine, though, I was off to the side by the band and probably sitting behind a pillar. Thank you again. It was a wonderful day.

        1. As I reflect on this pilgrimage, it is humbling to know I literally, quite literally walked on the spot St Rene & St Issac died. The palisade is well known with entrances on the East and West denoting their friends… north and south the enemies. It is said St. Rene was executed outside the east gate to the north… just on the way of Stations of the Cross.

          1. “the east gate to the north… ” Sorry it is to the SOUTH. I apoligize for the misdirection…better yet, the east gate to the upper hillside.

      1. Sean, great to hear that you’re 4th degree. So are my husband and our eldest son, and they are also members of the Color Corps, complete with the old-school regalia. 🙂
